PSAC Releases 2020-21 Top Team GPA Winners
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- On Thursday, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced that 10 different institutions have claimed Top GPA Awards for the 2020-21 academic year.
The Top Team GPA awards are in their 10th year of existence and are issued across 21 sports.
The awards, released at the conclusion of the academic year, honor the teams with the top cumulative team grade point average in each of the sponsored sports within the PSAC. The league hosts 22 championships, however, for the award purposes, indoor and outdoor track & field are counted as a single sport.
Mercyhurst paced the field of institutions tallying five different teams with league-high GPA’s, while Slippery Rock and Gannon had three apiece.
The Lakers claimed the Wrestling top GPA for the fourth straight year (3.205) while also earning top GPA’s in Men’s Basketball (3.459), Women’s Basketball (3.770), Football (3.172) and Softball, 3.745.
Slippery Rock had repeats in top GPA’s in Field Hockey (3.794), Women’s Soccer (3.723) and Men’s Track & Field (3.380). The Rock has recorded the top GPA in Field Hockey for all 10 years.
West Chester claimed both the Men’s Swimming (3.586) and Women’s Swimming (3.687) highest GPA’s and also earned the highest GPA in Women’s Track & Field (3.683). The Golden Rams repeated in both swimming and Women’s Track & Field.
Overall, there were 11 repeat winners from 2019-20.
Shepherd had two top GPA’s and tallied the highest cumulative GPA of any sport with a 3.822 in Women’s Golf.
Overall, the average GPA for the entire PSAC increase from 3.304 to 3.342. Since the awards began in 2011-12, the GPA for the conference has increased every year.
