WEEK 1 QUICK HITS
SHIPP - Shippensburg place kicker Montross was named PSAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week after hitting  a school-record 50-yard field goal in his first career contest. He was 4-for-4 on field goals from distances of 50, 41, 42 and 20 yards...BORO - Edinboro’s first game of the season at Grand Valley St. was canceled due to COVID-19 Protocols...WCU - WCU’s season-opening road loss was its first loss to begin a season since 2015. The Golden Rams fell to Lenoir-Rhyne in that one, 41-28...HURST - Linebacker Bradley Burrows was selected as PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week after his week 1 performance against Alderson Broaddus. Burrows had 10 tackles with five solo and four sacks...SHEP - Quarterback Tyson Bagent picked up right where he left off in 2019 with a PSAC Athlete of the Week honor following leading the Rams to a big win over Ohio Dominican. In the 35-30 victory, Bagent was 26-of-37 for 346 yards and four touchdowns...GANN - Quarterback Kory Curtis spread it around in week 1, with eight different players catching passes. East led the way with 7 receptions for 100 yards and 2 TDs, setting career highs for receptions and yards and tying his high for touchdowns receiving.  Damerisse Freeman Jr. added 2 catches for 73 yards...LHU - LHU’s season-opening win marked Lock Haven’s first season-opening road-win since 2005 at Cheyney and the first victory by way of shutout in a season-opener since 1981...CAL - Noah Dillow proved to be the threat he was going to be with 13 tackles (7 solo). He also added 2.0 TFL and 1.0 sack and a forced fumble...VILLE - Ville still has Isaiah Onuschak who became the first Marauder freshman to earn All-PSAC East honors since 2007, when he ranked second in the entire conference with 110 total tackles...CLAR - Clarion’s special teams were big-time highlights in week 1 as punt returner Jalen Smith returned one back for a touchdown and kick returner Terrell Ford returned a kick for a touchdown...KUTZ - Jerome Kapp hauled in four catches for 74 yards and one touchdown against Assumption. His best play was an impressive 15-yard tip-drill catch for a touchdown in the back of the endzone. IUP - IUP did not play in week 1, but will have the game of the week with a matchup between two nationally ranked opponents in Kutztown...BLOOM - Quentin Gaskill was one of the few bright spots in the Bloomsburg roster in week 1. He had 13 total tackles, 1.5 for loss with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery...SHU - Hauger earned PSAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week following a clutch performance in a win over Wheeling in week 1. SHU won 16-14, and Hauger accounted for 10 of those points, including the game-sealing field goal. He was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and 1-for-1 in PATs...ESU - Jimmy Terwilliger owns an 8-6 overall record as the head coach at ESU after leading the Warriors to a 6-5 record in 2019, which marked their first winning season since 2015. Terwilliger graduated from ESU in 2007 and worked as a high school teacher and football coach before returning to the sidelines at ESU....ROCK - SRU will play its first five games of the 2021 season under the lights as the first five weeks are all scheduled for 6 p.m. kickoffs, which isj ust fine with The Rock. SRU has won its last 21 consecutive games that started at 4 p.m. or later. The Rock have not lost an evening game since Sept. 29, 2012. SRU will not play a day game until Oct. 9 with a 2 p.m. game at Edinboro.
