LOCK HAVEN, Pa. ---
The 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Swimming Championships are set to begin from the Graham Aquatic Center at the York YMCA in York, Pennsylvania from February 16-19.

On the men’s side, the Bloomsburg Huskies will look to defend their title after winning the 2020-21 Championship with 945 points. West Chester will be making its return to the championship pool after not participating in last year’s championship. Prior to the Bloomsburg championship victory, the Golden Rams had won the previous 22 conference championship meets dating back to 1999.

Some top names returning to the pool this year will be BU’s Andy Thomas, Stephen McCallum of Gannon, Luke Mikesell of IUP and Clarion’s Connor Cary. Thomas claimed Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Year honors in 2021 and dominated the 50-Free, 100-Free, 200-Free and 100-Breast at the championship meet last year. Gannon’s McCallum placed third in the 100-Free, 200-Free and 500-Free in the 2021 meet and this year has the second-fastest 100-Free and fourth fastest 50-free times. Mikesell will likely be competitive in the pool for the Crimson Hawks coming off earning Freshman of the Year honors in 2021 while also recording the third-fastest 200-Free and 500-Free times this year. Clarion’s Cary comes back after earning PSAC Championship Meet Top Performer in 2021.

Over on the women’s side, IUP comes in aiming to defend its PSAC Championship crown. The Crimson Hawks captured their first women’s swimming title ever in 2021 unseating West Chester who did not compete. The Golden Rams had previously won the last 14 championships.

Likely to make an impact in this year’s championships are West Chester’s Ann Carozza, Gannon’s Silvija Taraska, IUP’s Paige Mikesell, and Bloomsburg’s Courtney Hubric. Taraska took first in last year’s 200-Free and 500-Free. Carozza is a three-time All-American and currently holds the top times for this season in the 50-Free, the 100-Free, and the 200-Free. Mikesell comes back after a National Title in the 2021 200-Free and being named Top Performer of last year’s championship meet, while also being selected as Athlete of the Year. Hubric will aim to make a splash as well after winning the 50-Free last year, while also helping Bloomsburg to a pair of relay wins in the 200-Free and 200-Medley.
