LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced this year’s 2021-22 Women’s Tennis All-Conference teams Friday. Millersville University’s Jasmine Morris took home top honors in the Eastern Division, and Karolin Kirchtag of Indiana University of Pennsylvania was selected in the Western Division as Athletes of the Year.

All-Conference teams and major award winners are determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Over in the East for women’s tennis, Millersville’s Morris was picked as the Athlete of the Year following a big year as the No.1 Singles player for the Marauders. Morris put together a 5-4 record in her last nine singles matches. In Divisional play, she was 3-0 and in doubles play, she was 4-0.

Millersville took home another major award as Chloe Abramowitz was named Freshman of the Year in the East. She found herself playing scattered as the fourth, fifth, and sixth singles player on the roster with a 5-1 record in singles and a 6-0 doubles mark in league play. Overall, she was 6-4 in singles and 7-3 in doubles matches.

Marauders Head Coach Matt Helsel earns Coach of the Year giving Millersville a clean sweep of the Eastern Division major awards. He coached the Marauders to a 15-8 overall record and an undefeated divisional mark of 7-0.

For the western division, there’s a mixed bag of major award winners starting with Western Division Athlete of the Year, Karolin Kirtchtag. The Crimson Hawks’ No. 1 singles player, she helped IUP to a 2022 PSAC Championship and was undefeated throughout the regular season going 6-0 in divisional play and 14-0 against all PSAC opponents.

Freshman of the Year Kayla Dean comes from Mercyhurst. She was the No. 1 singles player for the Lakers as a first year. She was 5-0 in divisional play and 12-2 against all PSAC opponents. Dean and her doubles teammate, Roisin Murphy were 4-2 in divisional play and 6-2 against all PSAC opponents.

The Western Division Coach of the Year is Matt Meredith of Slippery Rock. Meredith led The Rock women’s tennis squat to a 15-7 overall record and a 5-1 mark in PSAC West matches. Slippery Rock made it all the way to the PSAC Championship Match before falling to IUP in the tournament. SRU was also selected to play in the NCAA Regional Tournament beginning Friday at 12 p.m.
