PSAC Field Hockey Athletes of the Week – 1

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced this week’s field hockey athletes of the week. From West Chester, Valerie Van Kuijck was selected for offensive athlete, and from East Stroudsburg, Olivia Breen was picked for defense.

Valerie Van Kuijck enjoyed a strong start to the 2022 season this weekend, scoring a pair of goals and adding three assists in a pair of victories over two top-10 opponents. Against No. 4 Assumption on Friday night, Van Kuijck scored the goal that would prove to be the game-winner in the second quarter before assisting on another goal later in the contest to end the night with three points as West Chester rolled to a 10-1 win to open the season. On Sunday vs No. 8 Bentley, Van Kuijck scored the third goal of the contest after assisting on the second before adding another assist on the fifth and final goal of the game for the Golden Rams as the Purple and Gold rolled to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Falcons.

Breen helped the Warriors start the season 2-0 and was anchor on the back line, holding opponents to 0 goals and just two total shots on net. Despite playing on the defensive end, the senior scored a pair of goals in a victory over Assumption on Sunday.
