PSAC Week 7 Football Notes

EAST STROUDSBURG: With the win over Millersville, ESU is now tied with Shepherd and West Chester for second place in the PSAC East. and face West Chester this Saturday.

WEST CHESTER: The Golden Rams have not lost to ESU since 2012. Head coach Bill Zwaan is 17-3 against ESU in his tenure at WCU.

MERCYHURST: Lakers running back Jaylen Butera carried the ball 27 times for 204 yards and three touchdowns in last Saturday’s loss to Slippery Rock.

CLARION: Clarion snapped a four-game losing streak in the series with Mercyhurst last year, beating the Lakers 23-21 in Erie on a last-second field goal by Jarrett Esposito.

SLIPPERY ROCK: The 10th-ranked Slippery Rock University football team will look to stay unbeaten with a PSAC Western Division game Saturday at noon at Gannon University. The Golden Knights are also 3-0 in conference play.

GANNON: For the second straight week, Gannon held its opponent scoreless in the first half, blanking Edinboro in the eventual 23-12 victory.

SHIPPENSBURG: Freshman quarterback Sam Stoner picked up right where he left off following a strong effort in his first career start last week at Shepherd, throwing for 268 yards and three touchdowns.

KUTZTOWN: With Saturday’s win over Bloomsburg, Kutztown maintained its perch atop the PSAC East  and boasts the conference’s top-ranked defense in scoring (18.2 points per game) and yards allowed (266.5 per game.)

SHEPHERD: Quarterback Seth Morgan went 25-of-36 for 301 yards and two touchdowns in last weekend’s win against Lock Haven to earn PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Week honors.

MILLERSVILLE: Hakim Melvin has a touchdown catch in three consecutive games, he also has a return touchdown and a rushing touchdown, ranking him 13th in the PSAC in scoring.

EDINBORO: Edinboro features one of the most dynamic players in the conference in Reed Martin. He ranks second in the PSAC in punting average (42.8), providing an athletic element in the special teams game.

IUP: IUP turns to a new starting QB this week with the injury to Hunter Karst. Either Nico Marchitelli or Blayne Romano will take the reigns of the IUP offense this week against Edinboro.

LOCK HAVEN: The Bald Eagles’ defensive unit put up an all-around impressive performance and a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Chandler Baker highlighted the game last Saturday.

BLOOMSBURG: The Huskies will celebrate the 2023 Hall of Fame Class before the game and honor Brian Clarke’s jersey number and the 2013 PSAC Championship Football Team during the game. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.

SETON HILL: Taz Morris returned the opening kickoff of the second half against Clarion 100 yards, giving Seton Hill a 14-7 lead over Clarion and helping the team to the eventual victory.

CALIFORNIA: Eric McKan was named the Coal Bowl MVP and PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Week after finishing with 101 rushing yards and one touchdown on 21 attempts against IUP, his third career 100-yard game.
