LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer All-Conference Teams were announced on Tuesday afternoon, with Millersville’s Bob Hennessey (Eastern Division Athlete of the Year), and Gannon’s Tinashe Katsande (Western Division Athlete of the Year) both honored with major awards.
The All-Conference Teams and major awards are determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.
Redshirt senior midfielder Bob Hennessey earns the Eastern Division Athlete of the Year honor after leading the Millersville Marauders to a 12-2-3 overall record (9-1-2 PSAC) and leading the Marauders in goals (seven) and assists (five.) For the Western Division, graduate student forward Tinashe Katsande earns the Western Division Athlete of the Year honor after leading the Gannon Golden Knights to a 16-0-2 overall record (9-0-1 PSAC) and the conference's No. 1 seed in the West going into the postseason. Katsande led the Golden Knights in goals with 17.
Redshirt junior defender Aaron Maynard earns the Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Year honor after helping the Millersville Marauders to the conference's No. 1 seed for the East going into the 2023 PSAC Championship. In the Western Division, Redshirt sophomore defender Pau Ferrer earns the Defensive Athlete of the Year honor after winning PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week six times and leading the Golden Knights in assists with 15.
Bloomsburg's Owen Hollobaugh was voted Eastern Division Freshman of the Year after scoring four goals and adding three assists for 11 points in his debut campaign. For the Western Division, Gannon’s Rafael Hyde was voted Freshman of the Year after scoring six goals and adding three assists for 15 points.
The Millersville Marauders' head coach, Steve Widdowson, earned Eastern Division Coach of the Year honors thanks to the team's rapid improvement. Millersville finished with a 12-2-3 overall record (9-1-2 PSAC), compared to 2022’s 10-3-5 overall record (6-2-4 PSAC). Millersville 31 goals were fourth-most in the PSAC, while its 17 allowed defensively was fifth-lowest.
The Golden Knight’s head coach, Billy Colton, earned Western Division Coach of the Year honors thanks to the team's steady growth. Gannon finished with a 16-0-2 overall record (9-0-1 PSAC), compared to 2022’s 13-5-2 overall record (6-2-2 PSAC). Gannon scored 68 goals offensively--the most in the PSAC--while its 18 allowed defensively was tied for the lowest amount. Seven of his Gannon players earned a place on an All-Conference team in 2023.
Of the 52 total PSAC Field Hockey All-Conference honorees this fall, 21 are former all-conference selections, while 31 have been named to an All-PSAC team for the first time in their respective careers.
