PSAC Golf Athletes of the Week - 14

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Golf Athletes of the Week. Pitt-Johnstown's Mauricio Hernandez was named Men's Golf Athlete of the Week while Kutztown's Rhi Stutz was selected as Women's Golf Athlete of the Week.

Hernandez (69-74--143) won the individual championship at one-under-par and helped the Mountain Cats take the team title at the inaugural Pitt-Johnstown Bedford Springs Invitational. He won medalist honors by three strokes over runner-up finisher Markus Pierre of UMass Amherst, and became UPJ's first Division II Individual Champion. The individual win was also the third in program history (with the last coming courtesy of Mike Macionsky in 2011-12). His first round 69 (-3) was the second-lowest round ever for a UPJ competitor and his two-day total of 143 (-1) ties the lowest 36-hole total in program history.

Stutz shot a 5-over 77 to win her first collegiate tournament as the KU women's golf team also held off PSAC foe Millersville by one shot to win the ESU Spring Invitational last Saturday at Glen Brook Golf Club. Stutz outpaced the field of 39 players by two shots, topping Millersville's Amanda Wolf and Bloomsburg's Ryleigh Faust who each shot 7-over 79s. She tied a career-best round with her 77, which also came back in the fall on the same course during the ESU Fall Invitational.
