PSAC Swimming Athletes of the Week - 3

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced the Men’s and Women’s Swimming Athletes of the Week. Clarion's Joslyn Jurski and East Stroudsburg's Anique Hazebroek were selected as the Women's Swimming Co-Athletes of the Week while Clarion's Dominic Cortopassi earned the Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week honor.

Clarion swimers won a total of three events on Saturday afternoon in their dual meet victory over IUP, including two individual events and the final relay of the day. Joslyn Jurski factored into all three wins, touching the wall first in both the 200 Free and the 500 Free and swimming the third leg in the 200 Free Relay. In the 200 Free, the Golden Eagles had the top three finishers, representing a huge chunk of points in the final tally. Jurski was the first to complete the race, finishing in a time of 1:56.91. Jurski struck for her second win of the day in the 500 Free. She won the long distance event with a time of 5:13.19, putting her more than a second head of the Crimson Hawks' Benedetta Bellini. The third win of the day for the Golden Eagles came in the 200 Free Relay, edging out the Crimson Hawks with a time of 1:38.61 to take the race by more than a second. Amanda Fetsko and Jurski swam nearly identical splits in their legs of the race, with Fetsko finishing in 24.69 and Jurski in 24.65, but Madelynn McTeer led the way with a time of 24.02.

Hazebroek led the Warriors to a 135-127 win over Millersville on Saturday and made program history while doing so. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Hazebroek finished with a time of 10:24.12, breaking an 11-year team record and 13-year pool record. The sophomore also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.13 and helped the Warriors take the lead in the last event as a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay.

Cortopassi contributed to a relay win and also won two individual events in the Golden Eagles' dual meet victory over IUP on Saturday as Clarion beat the Crimson Hawks 116-108 at Pidgeon Natatorium. It was the Golden Eagles who struck first in the meet, with the 200 Medley Relay team of Mason Peck, Dominic Cortopassi, Gavin Guckavan and Mason Irwin beating the Crimson Hawks by one hundredth of a second. Cortopassi followed with a win in the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.61. He also won the 100 Breast, beating IUP's Patrik Kudla by 0.15 with a time of 58.44.
