LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Commissioner Carlin Chesick announced that Lock Haven women's soccer contest against Gannon will be designated as a scrimmage for Lock Haven after the institution scheduled 19 regular-season contests, exceeding the NCAA Division II maximum of 18.
Following a review by the PSAC Athletic Administrators Executive Committee, the Conference determined that the contest against Gannon on Saturday, Oct. 17 will be played as scheduled, with the following conditions:
• For Lock Haven: The contest will be considered a scrimmage and will not count toward its official NCAA record or statistics. In addition, Lock Haven will receive a 1.33 point reduction in the conference standings as a nullification penalty for originally scheduling in excess of the maximum limit of contests.
• For Gannon: The contest will count as a regular-season game, including the result and statistics.
• For PSAC standings: The result will count for both institutions, regardless of the outcome, to ensure fairness for all PSAC teams in determining conference championship qualification and seeding.
Gannon was selected through a random draw of Lock Haven's four remaining conference opponents to ensure an impartial decision.
The Executive Committee also determined that Lock Haven will remain eligible for the PSAC Women's Soccer Championship, as the contest will satisfy its conference scheduling obligation.
"While institutions are responsible for ensuring compliance with NCAA scheduling limits, our priority was finding a fair resolution that protects the integrity of conference competition and minimizes the impact on student-athletes and opposing institutions," said Chesick.
The results of the nullification will be displayed in the conference standings upon the conclusion of the regular season.
The PSAC considers this matter resolved with the implementation of these actions.
