LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – At the conclusion of the winter season and 14 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships, Gannon University moves to first place in the 2025-26 Dixon Trophy standings.
The Dixon Trophy is awarded at the end of each academic year to the league's most successful institution based on conference playoff and/or regular-season finishes. Standings are compiled based on average score for all PSAC championship sports each school sponsors. Equal to its total membership, each conference sport champion is awarded 17 points and a descending point value is given for respective place finishes. The second-through-last-place values vary depending on the number of teams that sponsor the sport.
Gannon has an overall average of 12.29 after competing in 11 total championships. This winter on the women's side, the Golden Knights were basketball runners-up and finished in seventh place at the swimming championships. For the men, wrestling earned its first solo PSAC Dual Meet Championship (third in program history), while in basketball and swimming the Golden Knights were runners-up. GU took home the Dixon Trophy after the 2024-25 season and back in 2022-23 and 2021-22.
West Chester moved into second place in the standings with an overall average of 12.00. The Golden Rams had excellent finishes in swimming (men's and women's champions) and men's basketball (quarterfinalist.)
East Stroudsburg (11.22 points), Kutztown (10.94), and IUP (10.92) round out the top five of the current standings.
West Chester leads all men's sports with an average of 12.57, while Gannon leads the women's standings with a 12.20. Gannon holds second place in the men's overall with a 12.36 while East Stroudsburg's average of 12.07 is second on the women's side.
Introduced in the 1995-96 academic year, the award is named in honor of F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former chairman of Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education's Board of Governors. Since then, nine PSAC institutions have claimed the Dixon Trophy. Shippensburg leads the conference with eight victories, followed by West Chester's five. Lock Haven, Bloomsburg, and Gannon have three titles apiece, while California and Slippery Rock follow with two victories. Kutztown and Millersville have each won once.
The final update of the 2025-26 Dixon Trophy standings will be released following the conclusion of the PSAC's spring championship season.
