PSAC Softball Athletes of the Week - 4

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Softball Athletes of the Week. In the East, Shippensburg's Gianna Cimino earned Athlete of the Week honors, while Lock Haven's Talia Ross was recognized as Pitcher of the Week. In the West, the Slippery Rock duo of Maddie Cavenaugh (Athlete) and Rachel Baker (Pitcher) took home the honors.

In a 2-2 week that included run-rule wins over IUP and No. 24 Pace, Cimino hit a team-best .571 with two home runs, a double and seven RBIs. She also did not commit an error on 13 defensive chances. Cimino was 4-for-7 with a home run, double, 3 RBIs and three runs scored against IUP. She was 4-for-7 with a home run and four RBIs against Pace.

Ross was outstanding in the circle for three straight days for Lock Haven. On Friday, Ross went 7.2 IP, 0 ER, 9 Ks and only allowed two hits at Tusculum. On Saturday, Ross pitched an 8-inning complete game shutout and struck out eight against UVA-Wise. On Sunday, Ross made it through the first six innings with allowing only one run and striking out nine more batters while The Haven held an 11-1 lead at Emory & Henry. With a comfortable lead, Ross allowed some runs in the bottom half of the 7th but still comfortably earned the win.

Maddie Cavenaugh

Cavenaugh led Slippery Rock to a 2-2 week overall. In four games, Cavenaugh hit .400 (6-of-15) with five runs and five RBIs. two of Cavenaugh's six hits were homeruns. The freshman finished the week with a .438 on-base percentage and a .800 slugging percentage. Cavenaugh also was two-for-two on stolen base attempts. 

In an 8-1 win over Saint Anselm, Cavenaugh went 1-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and one walk. Cavenaugh's lone hit of the game was her first career home run. During a 9-4 victory over Wheeling, Cavenaugh finished with a four-for-five performance with four RBIs, three runs and a stolen base. Cavenaugh hit a three-run home run to open The Rock's scoring in the game, as well as an RBI-single.

Baker went 2-0 in her two starts in a week The Rock went 2-2 overall. Baker pitched 11 innings and gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits and nine walks, while striking out 12 batters. 

Against Saint Anselm, Baker went six innings and gave up one earned run on one hit and three walks, while striking out six batters in an 8-1 win over the Hawks. Against Wheeling, Baker pitched five innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits and six walks, while striking out six Cardinals in a 9-4 win over Wheeling.
