PSAC Championship Game
(California, Pa.) -- Gerald Redding scored 22 points in leading Millersville to a 79-74 win over California (Pa.) to claim the PSAC Championship game at California’s Hamer Hall.
Redding, the tournament MVP, was one of five players in double-scoring figures for the Marauders. Micah Davenport added 16 points and tied for the game-high with nine rebounds. Daron Pressley (14 pts), Toochi Udeinya (12 pts) and Khari McKie (10 pts, 7 ast) rounded out Millersville’s top performances.
Millersville scored the game’s final seven points to claim the win. California took the lead, 74-72, on a fast break dunk by Michael Johnson at the 2:30 mark. It was the Vulcans first lead since Johnson’s lay-up gave them a 60-59 advantage with 11:28 left in the game.
Millersville opened its largest lead, 34-17, with 9:39 remaining in the first half. However, California stormed back with a 25-11 run, cutting Millersville’s advantage to 45-42 at the half.
The Vulcans were led by Ishmieal Kamara (18 pts), Tom Frederick (16 pts, 9 rb) and Michael Johnson (15 pts).
The win for Millersville was the first by the PSAC’s Eastern Division since Mansfield won in 1997. Millersville won its first title since 1993 and the fourth since the tournament began in 1961.
