Recap - From Lock Haven Sports Information
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Amanda Roosa’s first-inning two-run homerun was all No. 2 Lock Haven would need as the Lady Eagles took home their third straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Softball Championship by defeating No. 8 Bloomsburg, 3-0, in today’s title tilt at LHU’s Lawrence Field.
Roosa’s long ball drove in Lady Eagle pitcher Kristin Erb and gave The Haven an early 2-0 advantage.
Lock Haven (43-6) would add an insurance run in the second inning when a Julia Popovich single rounded pinch runner Kristin Schoenig, giving LHU a 3-0 lead.
Bloomsburg looked like it would put a run on the board in the third, but the runner rounding third and was gunned down by Krystin Montoro while Roosa tagged the runner out a few steps in front of home plate.
From that moment on the Huskies (48-9) had no answers to Erb’s dominance in the circle as they had two hits for the game and were unable to plate a run.
Roosa led LHU with a 1-2 afternoon which included her two-run homer in the first inning and a walk.
The Haven’s junior hurler Erb was named the PSAC tournament MVP for her three-game performance as she didn’t allow a single run and tossed a perfect game against Bloomsburg on Thursday. In the championship game, Erb pitched a complete-game two-hit shutout and struck out eight.
Erb’s performance today continued her climb up the Division II and PSAC all-time and single season charts in numerous categories.
With her 24th shutout of the year she finds herself in a tie for fourth place on the all-time Division II ledger and second on the all-time PSAC ledger behind California alum Danielle Penner.
Her 347 strikeouts also places her fourth all-time on the PSAC charts.
With its championship victory today, Lock Haven joins Bloomsburg, California and Shippensburg as the only teams to ever win at least three tournaments in a row.
The victory marked Lock Haven's 59th straight at Lawrence Field, not having been defeated at home since IUP accomplished the task on April 15, 2004.
Their championship performance also guarantees them a spot in next weekend’s regional tournament at Kutztown while Bloomsburg will await a likely at-large berth.
Lock Haven will be looking for its third consecutive regional championship when they take to the field next weekend at Kutztown. Next week's tournament champion will earn a spot in the national tournament which will be played this year in Houston, Texas.
Play at Kutztown begins on Thursday.
