BLOOMSBURG WINS PSAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Bloomsburg University won its fourth-consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Softball Championship on Saturday, defeating California (PA) 5-0.
Bloomsburg pitcher April Paoli (American Canyon, CA) recorded her third win of the tournament, pitching a six-hit shutout to earn the Championship’s Most Valuable Player award. Paoli, who pitched a perfect game against California last night (Friday), struck out 13 Lady Vulcans today (Saturday). For the tournament, Paoli struck out 32 batters, in 16 innings, earning three wins.
The Huskies, who were ranked #5 in Division II entering the tournament, scored two runs in the first on three hits, then scored three runs in the second inning on four hits.
California, the #3 team in Division II before the tournament, got to the Championship game by defeating Kutztown 8-0 in the first game of the day. The Lady Vulcans would give pitcher Rochelle Dierkes (Diamond, OH) all the offense she needed in the first inning, with four runs on four hits. California added three runs in the fifth, then scored their eighth and deciding run in the sixth inning. Dierkes went the distance for Cal, giving up four hits and striking out two.
