BLOOMSBURG WINS PSAC FIELD HOCKEY TITLE, FOUR TEAMS QUALIFY FOR NCAA III TOURNAMENT
 
Bloomsburg successfully defended its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference field hockey championship last weekend at Bloomsburg, and the four PSAC tournament teams will be b ack in action this weekend in the NCAA Division III national playoffs.
 
The Huskies edged Kutztown, 1-0, in the championship game on a goal by Daneen Fero. Goalie April Kolar had 15 saves. In the semifinals, Bloomsburg beat East Stroudsburg, 1-0, as Susie Slocum scored, and Kolar stopped nine shots. Kutztown was a 1-0 winner over Millersville with a 3-1 edge in strokes after a scoreless tie through regulation and three 10-minute overtimes. Gwen Kerr had 14 saves in goal for the Bears. East Stroudsburg blanked Millersville, 2-0, in the consolation contest with goals by Karen Moliver and Beth Bingaman and give saves by goalie Teresa Evans.
 
For her play in the tournament as well as an earlier shutout over Wilkes, Bloomsburg goalie April Kolar is the Pennsylvania Conference Player of the Week. The sophomore from Jonestown and Northern Lebanon High School had 24 saves without allowing a goal in the two tournament games and saved three shots in a 6-0 victory over Wilkes. She has 15 shutouts for the season and allowed only one goal to a Pennsylvania Conference opponent.
