LOCK HAVEN WINS PSAC FIELD HOCKEY; THREE LEAGUE TEAMS MAKE NCAA III TOURNAMENT
 
Lock Haven, returning to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference field hockey tournament after five years in NCAA Division I, defeated Millersville, 2-0, Sunday to win the PSAC Championship. And three PSAC teams, Lock Haven, Millersville, and third-place Bloomsburg, will be competing this weekend in the NCAA Division III national tournament.
 
The Lady Eagles will host one of the four regional tournaments Friday and Saturday. Bloomsburg will host another regional, and Millersville will go to Salisbury State.
 
At Lock Haven, LHU, 13-3-2, will take on Kenyon, 12-3-1, Friday, and Ohio Wesleyan, 16-1, will play William Smith, 12-6. The championship game will be Saturday.
 
Bloomsburg, 16-2-1, meets Messiah; 13-2, in Friday’s first round at Bloomsburg, and Muhlenberg, 14-1, is paired with St. Lawrence, 12-4-1.
 
Millersville, 12-5-2, takes on host Salisbury State, 14-3-1, while defending national champion Trenton State, 17-0, goes against Lynchburg, 12-3-2.
 
And in the fourth regional at Worcester Poly in Massachusetts, Worcester Poly, 16-1-1, plays Southern Maine, 13-1-2, while Salem State, 11-3-1, plays Cortland State, 14-2-3.
 
The seeded teams, separated by the seeding committee, are Trenton State, No. 1, Lock Haven, No. 2, Bloomsburg, No. 3, and Cortland State, No. 4.

In the PSAC Tournament, Lock Haven edged East Stroudsburg, 10, in Saturday’s semifinals, and Millersville upset Bloomsburg by a similar score. Sunday, Bloomsburg blanked East Stroudsburg, 3-0, in the consolation contest before Lock Haven downed Millersville, 2-0.
 
Missy Carman and Kathy Stein scored goals for Lock Haven in the title game, and goalie Dot Schmidt turned away eight Millersville shots. Bloomsburg’s Kathy Frick had the hat trick in the consolation, scoring all three goals, and Tracy Nilles had four saves.
 
Gia Sgrignoli scored Lock Haven’s goal against East Stroudsburg, with Schmidt saving three shots. Tracy Millers netted Millersville’s game winner against Bloomsburg, and goalie Kim Davis played spectacularly in blocking 20 Bloomsburg shots.
