LOCK HAVEN WINS PSAC FIELD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP
BLOOMSBURG – Cheri Drysdale scored off a penalty corner with 5:17 left to play in the game as Lock Haven defeated Bloomsburg, 2-1, for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference field hockey championship Sunday afternoon. It was the third straight league title for the Bald Eagles.
Drysdale took a pass from Stacy Karloski and drove a 20-yeard shot into the lower right corner to break a 1-1 tie. It was her ninth goal of the season.
That score came 5:32 after the Bald Easgles (20-2) tied the score at 1-1 when tournament MVP Melanie Halm took a tipped cross from Stacy Green and slid a shot to the near corner and into the cage with 12:50 left in the second half.
Bloomsburg (18-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the second half when Amber Hess scored on a penalty stroke. The Huskies were awarded the penalty shot after a shot by Bloomsburg’s Nicky Mowrer beat goaltender Kris Geissler, but hit the foot of a Lock Haven defender on the goal line.
In the final minutes, Bloomsburg had chances to even the score but Geissler stopped a shot by Hess to keep the Huskies off the board.
The Huskies had an 18-9 advantage in shots, including an 8-2 edge at halftime, and an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners.
