(Lock Haven, Pa.) – The Edinboro University of Pennsylvania Fighting Scot volleyball team captured its ninth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crown with this evening’s come-from-behind victory over two-time defending conference champion Lock Haven University, 3-2 (28-30, 24-30, 32-30, 30-21, 16-14). Edinboro’s Stephanie Burner (Pittsburgh/Upper St. Clair), a junior outside hitter, was selected as the tournament MVP. Edinboro improves to 19-12 overall, while Lock Haven is now 26-12 on the season.

Lock Haven stormed into the match with two straight wins, battling through seven ties and five lead changes in the first for the 30-28 victory. Edinboro led early in the second game but the Lady Eagles bounced back from the early deficit, tying the score at 5-5 before jumping out to leads as much as seven points (29-22) before the eventual 30-24 win.

The momentum went back and forth in game three, with Edinboro earning a six-point lead at 15-9 before Lock Haven answered with a run of its own, edging ahead, 21-20. After a tie game at 24-24, teams traded points with neither gaining the two-point minimum for the victory. Two Edinboro kills closed the deal, however, coming on points 31 and 32 for the 32-30 win. The Fighting Scots kept the momentum going in the fourth game, leading by as much as 10 points (28-10) en route to the 30-21 game victory.

Into the fifth and deciding game, Edinboro came out with a 3-0 run. Lock Haven returned the favor, climbing back into contention at 4-4. Again trading points and short-lived leads, the two teams fought to a 14-14 tie. A kill by Ashley Walton (Mt. Wolf/Northeastern) brought Edinboro to match-point, 15-14, and Jen Shaw (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) sealed the victory with a kill for the win, 16-14.

Edinboro had four players records more than 14 kills paced by 18 successful attacks from Walton and 17 from Shaw.
