WILLIAMSPORT -- Mansfield overcame an eight run deficit to claim its third straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship with a 16-13 win over Edinboro. The championship gives the Mountaineers an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.

Edinboro (35-15), winners of the PSAC Western Division, scored eight runs in the top of the first inning with two outs. Mansfield (40-8) got four runs in the bottom of the first inning behind two-run singles by Tom McCauley (Ambler) and Duke Neatrour (Johnstown).

Mansfield took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring nine times. Neatrour had a two-run double while Marc Shoenfelt (Herdon) added a two-run triple. Ray Schmittle (Altoona) picked up the win including a double and a home run driving in five RBI's. Bill Manourieh (Chesterfield) led the Fighting Scots with a home run and three RBI's while Scott Kemling (Albion) went 4-5 with two doubles.

Mansfield set a new school record for wins and advances to the NCAA Division II Championship for the third straight year. The Mountaineers finished second in the Division II World Series in 1993 and fifth last season.
