The Scots 77-67 win over Lock Haven (24-6) lifted the Edinboro women to a 26-2 mark but more importantly clinched the automatic bid to this year’s NCAA II national tournament and gave the Scots home advantage in the first round. Lock Haven, a 65-56 victor over Bloomsburg in the semifinals, earned an at large bid to the East region joining Edinboro, Pitt Johnstown (25-3) the 16th team in the country and either Pace or Army, whichever one would win the Empire State Conference. Bloomsburg received a bid to the Division II tourney base on record (22-6), strength of schedule, last year’s quarterfinal finish and a win over nationally ranked Bentley earlier in the season. The national tournament will open Friday, March 9. Edinboro got to the finals by downing Cheyney 110-86 with five players scoring 17 points or more led by guard Andrea Marter’s 27. Edinboro’s junior guard Demetra Adams (6-0, Donaldsville, GA) is this week’s conference Player of the Week for her strong effort in the tourney that netted her 41 points, 16 of 17 from the free throw line and 19 rebounds. Adams height advantage was the difference in the Cheyney game as the three Edinboro guards combined for 66 points Adams has 20 points.
