WEST CHESTER - The California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship for the second straight season with a 58-54 victory over West Chester on Sunday in the PSAC title game.

California improved to 29-1 overall on the season, while West Chester falls to 23-7. California clinched an automatic bid to the NCAA II tournament, but West Chester is also expected to receive an at-large berth when the 64-team field is announced on Sunday night at 10 a.m.

Suzie Gyarfas posted seven points, eight rebounds and a PSAC playoff record 12 blocked shots to earn PSAC Tournament MVP honors. Megan Storck added 18 points for the Vulcans.

Kiera Manlove scored 16 points for West Chester, while Kiesha Mack finished with 10 points. Carolyn Muldoon chipped in nine points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Rams.

The seesaw battle left Cal in front at halftime 34-28, but the Golden Rams used a 13-2 run over the first 5:05 of the second half to build a 41-36 lead.

But after Tracy Kling hit a three to give WCU the five-point lead, West Chester did not make another field goal until the 2:01 mark - or nearly 13 minutes - when Manlove banked in a shot to pull the Golden Rams within four at 55-51.

After a Cal turnover, Tracy Kling buried a three-pointer with :46 left to cut the score to one at 55-54.

The Vulcans turned over the ball again with :12 left in regulation, but as WCU raced down the court for the potential winning bucket, the Golden Rams lost control of the ball.

California's Storck picked up the loose ball and was fouled by Malove. It was called an intentional foul and Storck made 1 of 2 shots to build a 56-54 lead. Cal inbounded the ball and Storck was fouled again. She hit both free throws to ice the game.

The loss ends WCU's 12-game winning streak, while Cal has won 12 in a row.
