The tournament, held in Bloomsburg’s Nelson Field house, saw the two finalists pull surprises in Friday evening’s semifinals to advance to the title contest. Millersville, under Coach Deb Schlegel, has now appeared in two PC championship games and won both times, while Lock Haven was also making its second showing. The Bald Eagles had won the crown in 1985. In Friday night’s opening semifinal, Millersville handed Western Division titlist Clarion a 77-67 defeat to move into Saturday’s final and Lock Haven, directed by first-year head coach Frank Scarfo, held on to defeat host Bloomsburg, 58-53, to advance to the championship contest. By virtue of its victory, Millersville receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II tournament and hosts Adelphi on Saturday in the opening round. Millersville had reached the “final four” with an opening-round win over West Chester (64-57) on Tuesday, while Lock Haven defeated Slippery Rock, 71-62.
