2003 PSAC Men's Tennis Championship

(hosted by Bloomsburg)

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men’s tennis team claimed its 20th Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title in school history and first since the 2000 season with a 5-2 win over Kutztown University Saturday morning. Kutztown had won the last two PSAC titles outright after the two teams shared the title in the 2000 season.
The conclusion of the match was delayed by rain on Friday and forced it to be finished Saturday.

Bloomsburg led 3-0 coming out of doubles play on Friday when the rains came. When play resumed Saturday the Golden Bears picked up wins at number two and three singles.

However, the Huskies got their fourth point in the match when Kurt Caster won at number six singles, 7-5, 7-6, five in the tie-breaker. The championship-winning match came at number five singles when Brian Bogus won a three-set thriller, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, giving Bloomsburg the title.

The Huskies dominated PSAC championship play winning every title from 1987 to 2000, a stretch of 14 consecutive titles. The last two years Kutztown won the title outright with victories over the Huskies before the win this year by Bloomsburg.
