DUBOIS, PA. – Slippery Rock University won the 1995 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) golf championship today, edging IUP (Indiana University-Pa.) by five strokes.
 
Held at Treasure Lake Country Club’s Silver Course in DuBois, Pa. and hosted by Clarion University, Slippery Rock posted a two-day, 54-hole total of 900. IUP finished second with a team total of 905. Millersville was third with 960, West Chester fourth with 968, Clarion fifth with 981 and Edinboro sixth with 989.
 
Slippery Rock, who Monday led IUP by six shots after a 27-hole total of 445, shot a second day score of 455. IUP shaved one stroke off the lead with a second day score of 454, but fell five strokes short. 
 
The Rockets won the PSAC’s behind second place finisher Mike Ferry who carded a five-over par 221, third place finisher Gordon Chilton with a 223 and fourth place finisher Greg Downer with a 226.
 
IUP’s Brett Rosenberger was the PSAC medalist with a one-over par total of 217 for 54-holes. Teammates Mike Brown, Justin McCarter and Mike Wan were fifth and tied for sixth respectively with totals of 228 and 230.
 
The top ten players earned PSAC first team honors. Slippery Rock’s Rob Voltz and Neal Courtney were tied for eighth with 231 totals, while Millersville’s Job Crosby was tenth carding a 235.
 
Following the tournament, IUP’s Rosenberger was named PSAC “Athlete of the Year”, while Slippery Rock coach Bill Kirk was named as the PSAC “Coach of the Year”.
 
The team championship was the third straight title for Slippery Rock, who also won in 1994 and 93. SRU also won the PSAC’s in 1988, 87 and 85. IUP has won 7 titles since 1981 including four straight PSAC crowns from 1989-9. Other titles were in 1981, 83, 84, 86, 90 and 91. Clarion won the title in 1982.
 
Each team was permitted a total of five entries, with the top four scores counting after each 18-holes toward the team score.
