LANCASTER – Indiana University of Pennsylvania won the team competition, and Clarion sophomore Anthony Tacconelli recorded a medalist honors with a one-under-par 141 at the 2000 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Golf Championships held this weekend (April 22-23) at Bent Creek Country Club.
The IUP tandem of San Varano and Ryan Sikora led the Indianas with 36-hole totals of 148 (+6) and 150 (+8), respectively. They finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 25-player tournament.
Tacconelli fired a five-under-par 66 in Saturday for the low round of the tournament, and he closed with a four-over-par 75 on the 6,500-yard, par-71 Bent Creek layout.
Chad Schulze of Millersville was individual runner-up, with rounds of 68 (-3) and 79 for a five-over-par 147.
Slippery Rock, which finished four strokes behind IUP in the battle for the PSAC team trophy, was led by Ed Schoeffel with a 151 total (-9). Schoeffel’s three-over-par 74 on Easter Sunday was the lowest in windy (15-20 mph conditions).
