WEST CHESTER, PA – The Clarion University Women’s swimming team’s reign is over.

After 23 straight seasons as champions of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the Golden Eagles were edged by the Indians of Indiana (PA) in the final relay event ending their perfect string of titles.

IUP’s Petra Adamkova (Nachod, Czech Republic) – who won the 100-yard freestyle earlier in the evening (52.62) – sparked the Indians to victory on the deciding 400 free relay event (3:31.51). That victory pushed Indiana to a 399.5-396.5 triumph over Clarion. Bloomsburg finished third (338.5), while host West Chester was fourth (275).

The quartet of Adamkova, Jen Haring (Willow Grove), Nichole Curd (Pottstown) and Heather Packard (McKees Rocks) decided the championship for IUP in the final event of the evening.

Since the inception of the PSAC women’s swimming championships, only Clarion had carried the banner home.

West Chester picked up a pair of victories in the 1650 free and 200 breast stroke events. Avital Bressler (Israel/Rishon-Le-Zion) won the 1650 free (17:26.41), while Kristen Krail (Hatfield/North Penn captured the 200 breast stroke (2:24.97).
