2014 PSAC Cross Country Championships: Edinboro Women, Lock Haven Men Claim Titles

WOMEN’S RECAP: EDINBORO CAPTURES TITLE
Mansfield, Pa. - Edinboro won the PSAC Women's Cross Country Championship title with a team score of 52 points on Saturday in Mansfield, Pa.
The Fighting Scots were led by a third place finish from
Kasey Jones with a 6K time of 21:31.3.
Anna Hosl finished in eighth with a time of 22:00.0, while
Emily Ahrens was 11th with a time of 22:07.6. All three runners earned All-PSAC First Team honors.
Emma Sullivan and
Megan Maffett captured Second Team honors with their 14th and 16th place finishes, respectively. The PSAC crown marks the first since 2006 for the Fighting Scots and their 161th title overall. Edinboro won every PSAC Women’s Cross Country Championship title from 1998-2006.
Lauren Lehman of Bloomsburg was named the PSAC Most Outstanding Runner with a first place finish time of 21:17.3. Lehman is the second straight Husky to take individual medalist honors, as Vicki Davis captured the PSAC title a season ago. Bloomsburg was second as a team with 71 points, marking the best team finish for the Huskies since being the PSAC runner up in 2009.
Kate Dodds finished in fourth with a time of 21:32.6, while
Hannah Boudreau took All-PSAC First Team honors with a 15th place finish and a time of 22:14.9.
Shippensburg placed third with 127 points, while Lock Haven was fourth with 187. Slippery Rock came in fifth with 192 points, and East Stroudsburg’s
Allison Decker led the Warriors to sixth place with a runner-up individual finish with a time of 21:24.6.
The top 15 runners earn All-PSAC First Team honors, while finishers 16-30 are named to the Second Team.

MEN’S RECAP: LOCK HAVEN REPEATS
Mansfield, Pa. – Lock Haven won its second consecutive PSAC Men’s Cross Country Championship title behind four top 10 finishes on Saturday afternoon in Mansfield, Pa.
The Bald Eagles finished with just 38 points and was led by
Dylan Mountain’s fourth place 8K time of 24:44.8.
Zach Mains placed sixth with a time of 24:48.2, while
Vince Fadale was seventh with a 24:49.2 time.
Matt Guiod and
Ben Robinson each captured All-PSAC First Team honors with ninth and 12th place finishes, respectively. Lock Haven has now won two straight PSAC titles and 10 overall.
California's
Aaron Dinzeo took first place individually with a time of 24:18.7 and was named the championship’s Most Outstanding Runner. He is the first individual PSAC Champion from California since Chris Clark in 2008.
Shippensburg took second place as a team with 58 points led by
Brayden Burleigh’s runner up finish with a time of 24:42.9.
Austin McGinley finished eighth overall with a time of 25:00, while
Peter Gelston was 15th finishing in 25:17.2 and teammate
Kieran Sutton in 16th with a 25:17.7 time.
Edinboro finished with 86 team points and was led by
Matt Link’s third place finish of 24:43.8.
The top 15 runners earn All-PSAC First Team honors, while finishers 16-30 are named to the Second Team.

Mansfield, Pa. – 18 women’s teams and 16 men’s teams from around the PSAC will run in the 2014 PSAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Mansfield on Saturday, November 8 at Lamb’s Creek Course.
The men’s 8K race is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m., while the women’s race will follow at approximately 12:30 p.m. An awards ceremony will be held following both races at 2:00 p.m.
Mansfield captured its first PSAC Women’s Cross Country Championship title a year ago led by three top 10 finishes. Winning the championship title marked the first time Mansfield placed in the top three, and was the first PSAC title for a Mountaineer women’s team since Mansfield won the conference volleyball title in 1983.
With their top four finishers graduating last spring, the Mountaineers will look to sophomores
Destiny Foster and
Allison McCurry, who posted 2013 PSAC Championship times of 23:29.2 and 24:18.4, respectively.
Just two of the top 10 runners from last year’s championship race return this season, including IUP’s
Rachel Magliane, who finished fourth with a time of 22:19.4. Magliane was the first IUP runner to notch a top five finish at the conference championship since Erica Hoffman in 2007. Edinboro’s
Kasey Jones posted a time of 22:34.5 to earn All-PSAC honors and a ninth place finish.
Jones along with Back-to-back PSAC runner-up, Sarah Krolick of Edinboro, led the Fighting Scots to a second place team finish a season ago. Senior
Emily Aherns, who covered the 6,000 meters in 22:36.2, earned All-Conference honors after placing 11
th.
Prior to the Mansfield title a year ago, Shippensburg notched five straight PSAC championships. Last year’s third place team is led by returning sophomores
Casey Norton and
Allison Marella, who finished 16
th and 23
rd, respectively.
Bloomsburg captured the 2014 ECAC Division II Championship just a week ago at Lamb’s Creek Course, led by senior
Lauren Lehman. Lehman covered the 6,000 meters in a course record-setting 21:26 to claim the individual title.
On the men’s side, Lock Haven is searching for its second consecutive PSAC title and seventh overall. Last year, Alex Monroe won his third straight individual PSAC crown while leading the Bald Eagles to the men’s PSAC title and eventually to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championship crown. The Bald Eagles return 11 runners from last year’s championship squad, including four top 15 finishers;

Two-time All-PSAC cross country runner
Aaron Dinzeo of California finished second a year ago, just 2.6 seconds behind Monroe, with a time of 24:46.2. Dinzeo captured the individual title in all but one of his races this season and finished second in the prestigious Paul Short Run Gold Race at Lehigh University.
Matt Link returns as Edinboro’s top runner from the 2013 second place squad. Last year Link finished sixth overall with a time of 25:42.4, and will vie to become Edinboro’s 24
th PSAC individual champion. The Fighting Scots have won 29 team titles, including two in the last three years.
Shippensburg returns all but one runner from last year’s third place team, and will look to top three finishers
