CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
EDINBORO, Pa. --- The Lock Haven Bald Eagles claimed the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Wrestling Championship at McComb Fieldhouse Saturday evening in Edinboro, Pa.
LHU (156.0 points) won its league-high 20th team title and first since 2000-01. The Bald Eagles won five weight classes, including four of the last five.
LHU’s Chance Marstellar was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler after he claimed the 165-pound individual title in dominating fashion. He wasted no time disposing of Mercyhurst’s Gavin Wilkerson after pinning him in 26 seconds. Marsteller followed suit with a pin in 1:26 against Seton Hill’s Alec Shaw. Following a 16-1 tech fall in the semis, Marstellar earned the crown following a pin at the 1:46 mark in the finals.
Edinboro’s Sean Russell notched his third consecutive crown at the 125-pound weight class after defeating SHU’s Alan Diltz, 19-8.
EU’s Korbin Myers claimed his second consecutive title at 133 following a 4-2 decision against Bloomsburg’s Andrew Schutz.
Clarion’s Brock Zacherl won the 141-pound title with an 8-4 decision. Zacherl and the Golden Eagles finished second in the team standings with 122 points.
LHU’s Ronnie Perry won an individual title for the second consecutive season (141, 2016) after claiming the 149 victory over EU’s Peter Pappas, 10-0.
LHU’s Jared Siegrist won his weight class (174) following an injury to his opponent in the first period.
The Bald Eagles’ Corey Hazel won a highly-contested bout at 184 and claimed a 4-3 decision against CU’s Greg Bulsak.
CU’s Dustin Conti won at the 197-pound weight class, 4-3, against Pitt-Johnstown’s Levi Niebauer.
LHU’s Thomas Haines repeated as the champion at 285 pounds following a dominating performance against Kutztown’s Ryan Appleby, 15-1.
EU (120.5), UPJ (89.5) and MU (63) rounded out the top five.

CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The 75th Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Wrestling Championship will take place Saturday, December 9, at McComb Fieldhouse on the campus of Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pa.
Overall, 12 PSAC teams will be represented with hopes of claiming the prestigious conference title.
Action is set to commence at 10 a.m. with opening ceremonies and the awarding of the Champion Scholar slated for 6:15 p.m. with the championship rounds starting at 6:30 p.m.
Edinboro has won the event six consecutive times and all but three times since 2000. Clarion (2010-11), Bloomsburg (2004-05) and Lock Haven (2000-01) have been the three other champions since the start of the century.
In 2016, The Fighting Scots claimed the title with 156.5 points while LHU (132) and CU (96.5) rounded out the top three. EU will be led by returning champions; Sean Russell (125lbs), Ty Schoffstall (174lbs) and Dakota Geer (184lbs) who all won in decisions last year. Seth Russell has won back-to-back titles at 125.
EU had five individuals win their respective weight class while LHU’s Ronnie Perry (141) and Thomas Haines (285) led the Bald Eagles with the second most individual wins. Evan Delong (165) of Clarion, Cody Law (157) of Pitt-Johnstown and Evan Ramos (197) of Shippensburg all represented their schools as winners in their respective class and return to defend their titles.
CU, EU and LHU all had two second-place finishers while Mercyhurst, GU, SHU and UPJ each had one a piece.
Four PSAC teams claimed two third place finishers each; BU, CU, LHU and Mercyhurst. SHU and KU also claimed individual titles to round out third place.
Three teams earned two fifth place finishers; KU, LHU, and UPJ with BU, EU, Mercyhurst and SHU all rounding out fifth place finishers.
CU’s Delong earned Most Outstanding Wrestler after a sudden death 2-1 victory over Tyler Reinhart of UPJ.
EU and LHU are the only PSAC teams currently rank in the Top 25 NWCA DI Coaches' Poll (Dec. 5) sitting at No. 23 and 24, respectively. The PSAC has four teams in the DII Coaches Association Poll (Nov. 24); No. 5 UPJ (48pts), No. 7 GU (44) , No's. 13 SHU and Mercyhurst (27).
EU and LHU are tied for most PSAC Wrestling titles with 19.
