SLIPPERY ROCK WINS WOMENS; SHIPPENSBURG WINS MEN’S PSAC INDOOR TRACK & FIELD TITLES
 
Lewisburg, Pa. – The 2014 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded in Lewisburg, Pa. at Gerhard Fieldhouse on the campus of Bucknell University on Sunday, with Slippery Rock claiming the women’s team title and Shippensburg claiming the men’s crown.
 
Slippery Rock’s women combined for 108 points to clinch its first title since sharing the crown with Shippensburg in 2008. East Stroudsburg placed second with 86.5 points to mark the team’s best finish in program history. Shippensburg claimed third with 85.5 points, the lowest for the program since finishing fifth in 2007.
 
On the men’s side Shippensburg scored at least one point in every event for the first time in league history. The Raiders have now captured seven PSAC titles and have won the last four straight. Shippensburg missed the championship’s highest point total record by just 2.5 points, as the Raiders notched 213.5 points in 2012. The East Stroudsburg Warriors claimed their third-straight runner-up title with 109 points. Slippery Rock finished third with 100.5 points.
 
California’s Summer Hill grabbed first in the women’s mile with a time of 4:57.73, while teammate Alexandra Zanella placed second with a 5:02.57 time. Hill also anchored the California first-place distance medley relay team on Saturday and was awarded the PSAC Women’s Championship’s Most Valuable Track Athlete.
 
Edinboro’s Tabitha Bemis defended her PSAC long jump title with a mark of 5.85m. Bemis also took first and defended her 2013 title in the women’s 60m hurdles. She matched her PSAC Championship record, set a season ago, with a time of 8.60. Her 8.60 time also matches the PSAC All-Time record held also by Andi Rose of Slippery Rock. Bemis took her third gold medal of the championship with a 12.11m mark in the women’s triple jump. Bemis was named the PSAC Women’s Championship Most Valuable Field Athlete and the Championship’s Overall Most Valuable Athlete.
 
Slippery Rock’s Janine Powis won the women’s 800m run with a time of 2:18.29.
 
Shippensburg’s Megan Lundy placed atop the women’s 400m dash field with a time of 56.45, while teammate Briana Fells took second with a 57.26 time. Lundy led Briana Fells, Lauren Ellsworth, and Monique Clemons to a first-place finish in the women’s 4x400m relay with a combined time of 3:54.48.
 
The women’s shot put gold went to West Chester’s Kayla Owens with a mark of 13.19m.
 
East Stroudsburg’s Danielle Smith won the women’s 60m dash with a NCAA provisional time of 7.68. Smith won the league’s 60m dash title a season ago with a time of 7.72. Smith also defended her title in the 200m with a first-place finish with a NCAA provisional time of 25.32. Teammate Christina O’Connor clinched first in the women’s high jump for the second-straight PSAC Championship with a mark of 1.7m.
 
Mansfield’s Lauren Norton won the 3000m run with a NCAA provisional time of 10:08.89. She also won the 5000m run on Saturday with a NCAA provisional time of 17:33.40.
 
Mansfield’s Mike Robinson earned a NCAA provisional mark with a first-place finish in the men’s mile with a time of 4:12.44. Robinson also won the men’s 800m run with a NCAA provisional time of 1:53.54. Robinson won the PSAC Men’s Championship Most Valuable Track Athlete and the Championship’s Overall Most Valuable Athlete.
 
Shippensburg’s LeQuan Chapman won the men’s triple jump with a mark of 15.03m, as he was the lone competitor to break the 15-meter mark. Seton Hill’s Taylor Hockman took second in the event with a mark of 14.59m. Hockman won the long jump on Saturday and was awarded the PSAC Men’s Championship Most Outstanding Field Athlete award.
 
Lock Haven’s Alex Monroe clinched first-place in the men’s 3000m run with a NCAA provisional time of 8:25.22.
 
Seton Hill’s Terry Jackson took first in the men’s 60m hurdles with a time of 8.33.
 
Shippensburg’s Eric Bologa won the men’s 400m dash with a time of 48.89, just .01 seconds faster than East Stroudsburg’s second-place finisher Damien Boham.
 
Shippensburg’s Matthew Kujawski won first in the men’s 200m dash with a NCAA provisional time of 22.13. Teammate Romarr Mayle finished first in the men’s 60m dash with a time of 6.90.
 
Shippensburg’s Grant Smith won the men’s shot put with a new PSAC Championship record toss of 17.53m. Smith beat the previous record of 16.73m set by Kutztown’s Steve Tyson in 2008.
 
Slippery Rock’s Hans Lubich won the men’s heptathlon with 4976 points. He finished atop the group of 11 in the 60 m dash with a time of 7.08, and the high jump with a mark of 1.94m.
East Stroudsburg’s Seth Bailey won the men’s high jump with a cleared leap of 2.08m.
 
To cap the night for the men, Bologa, Andrew Kujawski, Kevin Shaw, and Robert Bales combined for a 3:18.10 time in the men’s 4x400m relay to win first.
 
The NCAA Division II Championship is slated for March 14-15 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

DAY ONE: ESU WOMEN AND LOCK HAVEN MEN LEAD COMPETITION

Lewisburg, Pa. – The 2014 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships completed its first day of competition on Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse on the campus of Bucknell University.
 
In the women’s team competition, East Stroudsburg is leading after six scored events with 38.5 points, while Slippery Rock is in second with 30.5 points. Defending PSAC Champion Shippensburg is third with 23 points.
 
Lock Haven lead the men’s competition with 48 points, while defending PSAC Champion Shippensburg is second with 46 points. Slippery Rock is currently third with 41.5 points.
 
Shippensburg’s Matthew Sankey, Timmey Usher, Mathieu Bee, and Nicholas Gibson won the men’s 4x800m relay with a combined time of 7:49.40.
 
Slippery Rock’s Jordan Pacheco won a pole vault jump off against teammate Cody Colagrande to win the PSAC title. Pacheco cleared 4.71m to clinch the gold, after competing against Colagrande at five different heights in the jump off.
 
The Rock’s Hans Lubich currently sits in first in the men’s heptathlon with 2,837 points. Shippensburg’s Austin Stine is in second with 2,600 points. Lubich took first amongst the group in the 60m dash with a time of 7.08, while also winning the high jump at 1.94m.
 
Lock Haven’s Dylan Mountain won the men’s 5000m run with a time of 14:53.79, while teammate Zach Mains was second with a 14:54.88 time. Both runners earned NCAA provisional marks.
 
The Bald Eagles of Lock Haven won the men’s distance medley relay with a combined time of 10:07.40. Jack Felt, Paul Stults, Matt Guiod, and Alex Monroe earned a NCAA provisional mark, while shaving over a second off their best time this season.
 
Seton Hill’s Taylor Hockman won the men’s long jump with a NCAA provisional leap of 7.28m.
 
East Stroudsburg's Travis Toth won the men's weight throw with a mark of 18.54m.
 
East Stroudsburg’s women earned 10 points from Theresa Horn winning the pentathlon with 3,355 points. She won the 800m run to end the night with a time of 2:29.73. Horn also won the long jump with a mark of 5.12m.
 
East Stroudsburg’s Elizabeth Madden took first in the women’s weight throw with a toss of 16.85m. The Warriors also won the women’s 4x800m relay with a combined time of 9:25.29. Meghan Ragard, Lauren Toth, Imani Rosario, and Kim Wernerspach beat their competition by just over three seconds.
 
Mansfield’s Lauren Norton took first in the women’s 5000m run with a NCAA provisional time of 17:33.40. IUP’s Rachel Magliane and Katie Koenig took second and third, respectively.
 
California struck gold in the women’s distance medley relay with a mark of 12:00.87. Alexandra Zanella, Julie Friend, Allison Hall, and Summer Hill held Division II’s 13th-fastest time heading into the championship with a combined time of 11:56.86.
 
Slippery Rock’s Kaitlyn Clark vaulted 3.72m to win the women’s pole vault after battling Bloomsburg’s Kelsey Davis in a jump off.

PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

Lewisburg, Pa. – The 2014 PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be contested this weekend at Gerhard Fieldhouse on the campus of Bucknell University.
 
The Championship was originally scheduled to take place at Edinboro’s Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome, but heating issues forced the change in location for the league championship.
 
MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
 
Shippensburg has won the league crown for the last three seasons, and six total since the PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championship began being contested in 2002. Lock Haven has won five PSAC titles, while Slippery Rock won its lone crown in 2008.
 
Shippensburg’s Matthew Kujawski is looking to defend his PSAC title in the 200m dash. M. Kujawki is seeded first in the event (22.02) and won the event in 2013 with a time of 21.97. He is also seeded atop the competition in the 60m dash (6.90), while his brother Andrew Kujawski is seeking back-to-back first-place finishes in the 400m dash. A. Kujawski won the 400 a season ago in 48.86 and is seeded first with a 49.46 mark.
 
Seton Hill’s Terry Jackson holds the No. 1 seed in the 60m hurdles (8.17), as he is the only PSAC athlete to have clinched a NCAA Division II provisional mark in the men’s 60m hurdles.
 
Mansfield’s Mike Robinson holds the top seed in both the 800m (1:54.52) and the one mile (4:09.43). Robinson is the lone PSAC NCAA Division II provisional qualifier in the men’s 800m run heading into this weekend.
 
Robinson will have to battle Lock Haven’s Alex Monroe in the men’s 3000m run. Monroe holds the league’s fastest time with 8:28.27, while him and Robinson are the lone NCAA provisional qualifiers for the men’s 3000. Monroe will also lead The Haven’s top seeded distance medley relay team (10:08.63).
 
Lock Haven’s Dylan Mountain is slated first in the 5000m run with a time of 14:49.56.
 
Mansfield holds the top 4x800m relay time of 7:58.30 heading into the championship, while Shippensburg has registered the fastest 4x400m relay time with 3:18.74.
 
In the field events, Shippensburg’s Jalen Ramsey is seeded first with a 2.15m mark, while teammate Grant Smith is seeded first in the men’s shot put with a toss of 18.11m. Shippensburg’s LeQuan Chapman is first in the triple jump with a mark of 14.88m.
 
Slippery Rock’s Jordan Pachecoo is seeded atop the competition in the pole vault (4.90m), and teammate Hans Lubich is first in the heptathlon with 4,876 points.
 
East Stroudsburg’s Travis Toth is first in the men’s weight throw with a mark of 19.40m, and Seton Hill’s Taylor Hockman leads the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.36m.
 
WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
 
Shippensburg has earned first-place at the last four PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, and has won five total. Slippery Rock shared the title with the Raiders in 2008, while also winning the title in 2007 and 2009. Kutztown has won three PSAC titles, while Lock Haven has won the championship twice.
 
Millersville’s Kiara Allen owns the 60m dash top-seeded time at 7.72, as she is the lone PSAC athlete to have a NCAA provisional mark in the women’s 60m dash.
 
Shippensburg’s Lauren Ellsworth is the top seeded runner in the women’s 200m dash with a time of 25.70, while teammate Megan Lundy is ranked atop the competition in the 400m dash with a mark of 56.83. Lundy won the 400m dash at the conference championship a season ago with a time of 57.38.
 
Bloomsburg’s Alexis Rankin holds the best time in the women’s 800m run with a seed time of 2:18.66, and fellow Husky Lauren Lehman is ranked first in the women’s one mile with a time of 5:02.91. Lehman and Rankin are both members of the team’s 4x800m relay team that ranks first in the PSAC with a time of 9:56.09.
 
Mansfield’s Jessica Scordino is seeded first in the women’s 3000m run with a time of 10:06.99, and teammate Lauren Norton is atop the league in the women’s 5000m run with a time of 17:09.26.
 
Edinboro’s Tabitha Bemis is looking to defend her PSAC title in the 60m hurdles with the league’s top time of 8.74. Bemis will also lead her 4x400m relay team, as the quartet holds the league’s best time with 3:56.67. Bemis also holds the PSAC’s top marks in the long (5.75m) and triple jump (12.03m). She is the only PSAC jumper to have NCAA provisional marks in either event. Bemis won gold in the long and triple jump at the 2013 PSAC Championship with leaps of 5.73m and 11.86m, respectively.
 
California’s distance medley relay quartet leads the league with a mark of 11:56.86, as the only team that has broken the 12-minute mark in the PSAC this season.
 
In the field event’s East Stroudsburg’s Christina O’Connor is seeking a back-to-back first-place finish at the conference championship in the high jump. O’Connor enters the weekend with the top mark in the league at 1.73m.
 
Bloomsburg’s Kelsey Davis earned the league’s best mark in the pole vault a weekend ago with a vault of 3.70m. 
 
Shippensburg’s Elizabeth Ross’ 13.67m toss in the shot put is seeded atop the league, while Seton Hill’s Victoria Miller owns the conference’s top toss in the weight throw at 16.82m.
 
Slippery Rock’s Sabrina Anderson is slated first in the women’s pentathlon with 3,366 points, and is one of two league athletes to have a NCAA provisional mark in the event.
