WEST CHESTER, Pa. --- The East Stroudsburg Warriors won the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship after defeating Gannon, 1-0, at Rockwell Field Sunday afternoon in West Chester, Pa.
 
The Warriors (14-3-2) claimed their 20th title in school history and has tied Lock Haven for the most in PSAC history. It marks the first title for ESU since 2007.
 
The Golden Knights fell to 11-7-1 despite holding a slight edge in shots, 11-10. All 11 GU shots took place in the second half.
 
ESU’s Jo Panuccio scored the contest’s lone goal only 4:35 into the match after he blasted a free kick over the goalie’s head.
 
ESU’s Will Boerema survived a barrage of shots when GU fired off four in a span of 3:41 early in the second half. Boerema was later named tournament MVP.
 
The junior didn’t allow a goal in ESU’s three contests during the postseason.
 
Three GU players took two shots each. The contest was chippy while there were six yellow cards distributed.
 
ESU earned an automatic bid to the NCAA DII Men’s Soccer Tournament and will learn its fate Monday, Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship field has been set following the conclusion of the regular season on Saturday, the league announced.
 
Six teams will vie for the PSAC Men’s Soccer title while the No. 1 and No. 2 seed earned first-round byes.
 
The West Chester Golden Rams cruised to a No. 1 seed after producing a flawless 11-0 record in PSAC play. WCU enters the tournament winners of eight consecutive matches and has allowed only one goal in the last five contests. The Golden Rams will host the semifinals (Nov. 3) and final (Nov. 5). WCU will battle the winner of East Stroudsburg and Mercyhurst at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3.
 
Gannon swiped the No. 2 seed after an impressive 4-2 win on the final day of the regular season. The Golden Knights enter the post season with an 8-2-1 PSAC mark and have amassed seven goals in the last three contests. GU will face the winner of Millersville and Seton Hill at 1:30 p.m. in a semifinal.
 
Millersville earned the No. 3 seed after producing an 8-3 PSAC record and have won four of its last five. The Marauders entered this week ranked No. 21 in NCAA DII Men’s Soccer. MU will host Seton Hill, Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m.
 
ESU grabbed the No. 4 seed and enter the postseason on a six-match win streak. The Warriors will face a familiar foe in Mercyhurst as the two squads battled Saturday, Oct. 28. ESU hosts the Lakers Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
 
Mercyhurst earned the No. 5 seed and look to repeat as PSAC champions after claiming its fourth conference championship in 2016. The Lakers travel to ESU.
 
SHU claimed the final spot as the No. 6 seed after posting a 5-6 mark in PSAC play.
