RECAP
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. --- The 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Individual Championships concluded Monday afternoon at the Central PA Tennis Center in Williamsport, Pa. 

Men's Singles Champion: Nils Plutat, Edinboro

Edinboro sophomore Nils Plutat claimed the men’s singles individual title, the fourth Fighting Scot to do so in the last five years. 
 
The sophomore opened play with against West Chester's Adam Courtemanche. Plutat won 6-1, 6-0. 

He followed up with a victory against Millersville's Frank Yanni, 1-6, 6-3. 
 
In the semifinals, Plutat downed Unai Gonzalez from Mercyhurst, 7-5, 6-1. 
 
Plutat won the title, defeating a second Mercyhurst qualifier Ruairidh Fraser,  2-6, 7-5. 

Men's Doubles Champion: Nils Plutat/Ting Hao-Hsu, Edinboro

Plutat teamed with Ting Hao-Hsu to win the men’s tennis doubles championship.
 
The pair of Fighting Scots became the third Edinboro duo in the last six seasons to claim the doubles crown. 
 
They defeated Shepherd's Carter Davis and Evan Dokken, 8-3, to open play. 
 
Plutat and Hao-Hsu defeated the Lakers in the Semi's and went on to seal the title with a 8-1 victory over Bloomsburg. 
 
Both Plutat and Hao-Hsu are first time double's title winners of the PSAC Individual Championships. 

Women's Single Champion: Joanna Stralka, IUP

IUP freshman Joanna Stralka claimed the crown in the women’s singles event. She is the second Crimson Hawk athlete to win the title. 
  
She opened with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Shippensburg's Paige Simons before defeating  Athina Tsagkaraki from Mercyhurst, 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16. 
 
Stralka beat Nadja Ostojic in the quarterfinals before deafting Millersville's Esperanza Contador, 6-1, 6-1, in the semis. 

The freshman defeated Slippery Rock's Viola Lugmayr in the final, 6-1, 6-3.  

Women's Double Champion: Lois Page/Viola Lugmayr, Slippery Rock

Slippery Rock's Lois Page and Viola Lugmayr won the women’s doubles championship, only the second in Rock's history. 
 
The pair cruised past Lock Haven's Delani Wolever and Hailey Risley, 8-0, in the opening round before defeating East Stroudsburg's Marina Zardet and Quinn McClusky, 8-2. 
 
In the semis, Page and Lugmayr battled against Mercyhurst's Ivona Plecevic and Nadja Ostojic, winning 8-5, before claiming the title with an 9-8 win against IUP's Katya Minchenkova and Idoia Huerta.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. --- The 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Individual Tennis Championships are set to take place at the Burt Reese Tennis Center in Bloomsburg, Pa.
 
Action will commence Saturday, October 5 and end Monday, October 7.
 
Mercyhurst senior Cormac McCooey seeks to repeat in the singles bracket after claiming the crown in 2018.
 
McCooey joined Unai Amilleta Gonzalez to win the men’s doubles bracket. The duo was named first-team all-conference in doubles in May.
 
Overall, Kutztown boasts the most champions in both singles (6) and doubles (7) in the event.
 
Bloomsburg and Edinboro are tied for second in singles with three while Mercyhurst has claimed three doubles titles.
 
On the women’s side, Slippery Rock senior Lacey Cohen looks to carry momentum into the new year after winning the singles title and being named PSAC West Athlete of the Year in 2018.
 
Cohen’s title marked the first for Slippery Rock in the event.
 
Mercyhurst’s duo Kayla Frost and Sangeeta Roopan won the doubles flight. They were the second Lakers duo to accomplish the feat.
 
Roopan was named PSAC West Freshman of the Year in the spring.
 
Cal U sports the most titles in singles (8) and doubles (9).
 
The doubles brackets will open play on Saturday at 10 a.m.
 
The men’s doubles final is slated for Sunday at 9 a.m. while the singles final is set for 2 p.m.
 
The women’s doubles final will start at 9 a.m. Monday while the singles championship match is set for 11 a.m.
