LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced that nine different institutions have claimed Top GPA Awards for the 2021-22 academic year Tuesday.
The Top Team GPA awards are in their 11th year of existence issued across 21 sports.
The awards, released at the conclusion of the academic year, honor the teams with the top cumulative team grade point average in each of the sponsored sports within the PSAC. The league hosts 22 championships, however, for the award purposes, indoor and outdoor track & field are counted as a single sport.
Gannon, Seton Hill and Slippery Rock tallied four different teams with league-high GPA’s with Seton Hill also having the highest institutional average among PSAC programs.
Gannon’s four program highs were men’s golf (3.727), men’s swimming (3.473), women’s volleyball (3.747), and men’s wrestling (3.163).
For SHU, they had top honors in baseball (3.356), women’s cross country (3.726), football (2.996), and women’s golf (3.766). It is now the eighth consecutive season Seton Hill has had the top GPA in baseball.
As for Slippery Rock, they took top GPA’s in field hockey (3.766), women’s lacrosse (3.653), women’s soccer (3.688), and men’s track & field (3.295). Slippery Rock increased its streak of consecutive years with the top field hockey GPA to 11.
For the conference overall, there was an increase in overall average GPA from 3.304 in 2020-21 to 3.341 in 2021-22.
