PSAC Women’s Soccer Athletes of the Week – 4

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference named this week’s women’s soccer athletes of the week. From the East, Bloomsburg University came up with as sweep as Paige Harris was named Athlete of the Week and her teammate Riley Spingler earned Defensive Athlete of the Week. From the West, Karah Van Horn of Mercyhurst University was the top offensive athlete while Sachi Negri of the University of Pitt-Johnstown took the defensive award.

Paige Harris played a part on every scoring play for the Huskies this past week as they beat No. 14 Kutztown (W, 1-0) on Wednesday and Lock Haven (W, 2-0) on Saturday. Against Kutztown, Harris sent a ball into the box that led to an assist on Alivia Gallardo's game-winning goal. Then against Lock Haven, Harris scored once and assisted Nicole Varano's goal as the Huskies beat the Bald Eagles 2-0.

This week, Spingler held two more opponents scoreless as the Huskies shutout No. 14 Kutztown on Wednesday and Lock Haven on Saturday. Spingler had three saves in each contest and the two shutout victories extends the team's streak to four straight shutout wins.

Karah Van Horn led Mercyhurst to an undefeated week with six points in two wins over Seton Hill and California (Pa.). Against Seton Hill, Van Horn scored an unassisted goal that proved to be the game-winner in a 3-2 finish. Later on, against California (Pa.), Van Horn scored both goals in the 2-0 victory.

Sachi Negri assisted Pitt-Johnstown in an undefeated week. At Clarion on Wednesday, Negri faced 10 shots and made five saves in 1-0 shutout. Then against Slippery Rock on Saturday, she faced 23 shots, made 10 saves, and only allowed one goal in a 2-1 win.
