Slippery Rock's Ethan Brentham (Men's Cross Country) and Kutztown's Sarah Gatehouse (Field Hockey) earned prestigious Elite 90 Awards

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - A pair of PSAC student-athletes were honored with NCAA Elite 90 awards prior to the start of this weekend's championship events: Slippery Rock's Ethan Brentham earned the award for Men's Cross Country while Kutztown's Sarah Gatehouse was named the NCAA Elite 90 Award winner for Field Hockey.

With this weekend's pair of awards, the PSAC has already equaled its Elite 90 total from the entire 2022-23 season, when West Chester's Adriana Palumbo (Field Hockey) and IUP's Rachel Johnson (Women's Swimming) were honored.

The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA championships across all three divisions - I, II and III.

Initiated during the 2009-10 academic year, the award was originally named the Elite 88 Award, but was changed for the Elite 89 Award for the 2011-12 season after the addition of the Division III men's volleyball championship brought the NCAA's championship total to 89. The name was changed again to the Elite 90 Award for the 2015-16 season when the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship was added.

Brentham and Gatehouse were also named PSAC Champion Scholars for their respective sports for the 2023-24 season.
