PSAC Softball Athletes of the Week – 10

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced this week’s softball athletes of the week. In the East, Shippensburg’s Hannah Marstellar was selected as Athlete of the Week and Kutztown’s Haley Gravish was selected as Pitcher of the Week. In the West, Mercyhurst swept the awards with Allison Dejidas (Athlete of the Week) and Mikaela Schramski (Pitcher of the Week) each being recognized.

In the East, Shippensburg’s Hannah Marstellar was selected as Athlete of the Week and Kutztown’s Haley Gravish was selected as Pitcher of the Week. In the West, Mercyhurst swept the awards with Allison Dejidas (Athlete of the Week) and Mikaela Schramski (Pitcher of the Week) each being recognized.

In the 3-1 week for the Raiders, Marsteller led the team in RBIs (8) and slugging percentage (1.000). She also had a .571 batting average and went 8-for-14, including two home runs. In the sweep against Millersville, Marsteller went 5-for-7 with three RBIs and set the school record for career runs scored with 170 surpassing the mark by Liz Corr. Marsteller now has 172 career runs scored which ranks 11th in the PSAC for all-time career runs scored. In both games, Marsteller had multi hits, going 3-for-4 in Game 1 with an RBI and then 2-for-3 in Game 2 with 2 RBIs. In the split against Lock Haven, Marsteller reached base five times, including a two-run home run in Game 1 and then a three-run home run in Game 2. She had five RBIs, drew two walks and had a slugging percentage of 1.286. In Game 1, Marsteller narrowed the gap with the two-run home run in the bottom of the third. In Game 2, Hannah hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to extend the Raiders lead. Marsteller ranks seventh in the nation for slugging percentage and leads the PSAC with a .904 slugging.

Sophomore pitcher Haley Gravish went 4-0 last week in four appearances, three of which were starts, as Kutztown had an undefeated week, going 6-0. In total, she allowed just three earned runs and struck out 15 batters. Gravish earned wins in both games last Tuesday at Shepherd, starting game one and allowing an earned run, four strikeouts and six hits in a complete game. Leading 6-1 in the fourth inning, Shepherd pulled to within one at 6-5, but Gravish then entered and threw 4.1 innings and helped KU shut the door on the Rams, not giving up an earned run, striking out three. In her next start this past Friday, Gravish threw a complete-game shutout in a win over Bloomsburg, giving up just five hits. She capped off the undefeated week with a complete-game, five-hitter against Mansfield, giving up just two runs, while striking out a season-high eight batters. Her 15 wins this season is tied for third-most in the PSAC and her 1.95 ERA is sixth-best in the conference.

Dejidas finished the week with a .444/.545/1.167 triple slash line in six games. She had at least one hit in each game including two in two against Slippery Rock on Wednesday and Pitt-Johnstown on Friday. Five of her eight hits went for extra bases including four home runs, two of which she hit against UPJ. Additionally, Dejidas posted 16 RBIs for the week, walked four times, and recorded zero strikeouts.

Schramski pitched 20 innings on the week across three games, throwing at least six innings in each game. She gave up just four earned runs and 14 hits in the 20 innings (1.8 ERA) while striking out 11 batters.
