PSAC Field Hockey Athletes of the Week - 8

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Field Hockey Athletes of the Week. West Chester's Veerle Hersman was selected as Athlete of the Week while Kutztown's Olivia Kirkpatrick was recognized as the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Hersman scored all three goals that West Chester scored in its two wins last week. She scored twice in a 2-0 win over No. 5 Bloomsburg that was a pivotal game with both PSAC and NCAA Tournament implications. She then scored the only goal of the game on a penalty stroke at Slippery Rock in a 1-0 win last Saturday. She picked up a pair of game-winning goals on the week, giving her five for the season.

Kirkpatrick, the center back for No. 1 Kutztown, which ranks second in the nation in goals allowed (10), contributed on both sides of the field as she scored a goal in all three of Kutztown's victories last week and allowed just eight shots and two goals in a 3-0 week. She scored the opening goal of a 2-0 win at No. 10 Millersville last Wednesday, earned a penalty stroke goal in the 8-1 win at Frostburg State on Saturday and then tallied the second goal of a 4-1 win against Maryville.
