PSAC Softball Athletes of the Week - 5

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Softball Athletes of the Week. In the West, Slippery Rock's Alexsa Hurd was named Athlete of the Week while Pitt-Johnstown's Mia Smith was selected as Pitcher of the Week. In the East, Shippensburg's Caitlyn Martell (Athlete of the Week) and Sarah Davenport (Pitcher) were recognized.
 
Western Division Athlete of the Week

Hurd led Slippery Rock through a 1-7 week in Florida by batting 7-for-23 (.304) and slugging .783. Hurd contributed three home runs, two doubles and a team-leading six RBI while scoring five runs for The Rock. She also produced SRU's walk-off RBI-single in a 2-1 win over Bentley. Hurd ended the week on a four-game hitting streak including two two-hit games (2-for-4 against both AIC and St. Michael's). In the circle, she struck out thirty batters in 20.2 innings while posting a 3.05 ERA.

Smith pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout with five strikeouts and four walks in Pitt-Johnstown's 3-0 victory at Charleston (WV) in Wednesday's first game of a non-conference doubleheader. She allowed only two singles--one in the third inning and one in the sixth inning.

In a 6-0 week for the Raiders, Martell was 14-for-25 (.560) at the plate with three extra-base hits (two doubles, one triple), eight RBIs, and four runs scored. She did not draw a walk and she did not strike out. The PSAC's No. 2-ranked hitter for batting average had at least one hit in all six games, including multiple hits in five games and three consecutive three-hit games. She has at least one hit in 13 of 14 games this season and is currently on a nine-game hitting streak. She has reached base in 41 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Davenport went 2-0 on the week, pitching two complete-game shutouts, including a perfect game against Dominican. In 14 innings, she allowed just three baserunners—one hit and two walks—while striking out 27 of the 45 batters she faced. Davenport has now pitched nine consecutive perfect innings across two games. She also set the Warriors' career record for strikeouts and currently sits at 441.
