PSAC Women's Volleyball Athletes of the Week - 2

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Women's Volleyball Athletes of the Week honorees. In the West, Pitt-Johnstown's Ellie Zuro Cirino was selected as Athlete of the Week while California's Sarah Stephenson was named Defensive Athlete of the Week. In the East, West Chester's Abiah Lane (Athlete) and Shepherd's Sophia Ryan (Defensive) earned the honors.

In four matches Cirino averaged 16.3 kills, 17.9 points, 8.0 digs, and 1.0 aces in 2-2 week. In a 3-0 hom win over Point Park, Cirino had a match-high 16 kills (.324 hit%), 17.5 points, 9 digs, 1 ace, 1 block assist. In 3-1 win over Frostburg State at Frostburg State Invitational she had career and match-high 19 kills (.280 hit%), 20.5 points, 6 digs, 1 ace, 1 block assist. On Saturday of the Frostburg State Invitaional, Cirino had career and match-high 22 kills (.413 hit%), 24.0 points, 6 digs, 1 asst., 1 ace, 1 solo block in 3-1 loss to Shippensburg and team-high 8 kills, 9.5 points, 3 digs, 1 ace, 1 block assist in 3-0 loss to Ohio Dominican.



Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week

Stephenson registered 1.22 blocks and 3.72 points per set over the weekend, as California claimed three wins – all sweeps – at the Shannon Sullivan Memorial Tournament hosted by Kutztown. She has helped the Vulcans start the year with a 6-0 record for the first time since the 2008 campaign. Stephenson registered five blocks and five kills on Friday in a 3-0 victory against Caldwell. The next morning, the Waynesburg native collected 11 kills and two blocks in a 3-0 win over Bowie State. Stephenson finished the weekend with 12 kills and four blocks against the host Golden Bears in a 3-0 victory.

Lane had an excellent week for West Chester, registering double-digit kills in three of four matches, including a career-high 17 at Molloy on Friday night. Lane started her week with a 12-kill effort on 26 swings, along with an ace and a pair of digs in the victory over Chestnut Hill on Wednesday night. On Friday at Molloy, Lane picked up 17 kills on 44 swings with just five errors, along with two aces, 13 digs, and a hand in seven blocks in the five-set setback. On Saturday in Delaware, Lane registered 14 kills against Goldey Beacom with six digs before posting eight kills and eight digs in the nightcap vs St. Thomas Aquinas. The senior also hit north of .300 in three-of-four matches this weekend.
