PSAC Football Athletes of the Week: Week 1

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Football Athletes of the Week for Week 1 of the 2025 season. In the Western Division, Clarion's Anthony Guercio was honored as Offensive Athlete of the Week, California's Alexie Sangster Jr. and Seton Hill's Darius Patterson were named Co-Defensive Athletes of the Week, and California's Harry Radcliffe was selected as Special Teams Athlete of the Week. In the Eastern Division, Kutztown's Jaedyn Stewart is the Offensive Athlete of the Week and is joined by East Stroudsburg's Ashton Blose (Defensive) and West Chester's Rylan Zuk (Special Teams.)

Guercio accounted for five touchdowns in just 33 minutes of total game action on Thursday, leading the Golden Eagles to a 48-20 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on the road. He was 11 of 15 passing for 125 yards and three touchdowns, tossing two scores to Davon Jones and one to Holt Egan, and also took off for touchdown runs of 37 and nine yards - all in the first half. He stuck around for the first offensive series of the second half, engineering a touchdown drive that culminated in a score from running back Khalon Simmons. Guercio exploded on the ground against the Bobcats, rushing for 104 yards. Clarion led the Bobcats 41-0 after the first half and were ahead 48-0 with nearly 13 minutes left in the third quarter before emptying the bench. Guercio has rushed for four touchdowns and thrown for five more, accounting for nine touchdowns in two games.

Sangster tied for the team lead with nine tackles (four solo) and sealed the victory with a last-minute interception on Thursday in a 23-19 win against No. 12 Charleston. With 45 seconds left, UC was facing fourth-and-23 at the Cal 31-yard line before Sangster registered his second career interception at the 9-yard line to allow the Vulcans to regain possession. Sangster helped anchor a defense that allowed just 100 passing yards on 6-of-21 attempts by the Golden Eagles, which previously finished with 285 passing yards and five passing touchdowns in Week 0.

 

PSAC Western Division Co-Defensive Athlete of the Week

Patterson led the Griffin defense to a 42-21 win at West Liberty on Saturday afternoon. He had a pair of interceptions in the win and put the game away with a 74-yard interception return for a touchdown with 9:34 left in the third quarter that gave the Griffins a 35-14 lead.
 



PSAC Western Division Special Teams Athlete of the Week

Radcliffe converted three-of-four field goals, highlighted by multiple 40-yard attempts, as the Vulcans posted a 23-19 season-opening victory over No. 12 Charleston on Thursday. He became the first kicker since 2017 to convert at least two 40-yard field goals in a game. Radcliffe converted the first field goal of his career, a 35-yard attempt, with 8:53 left in the first quarter. The Laurel Highlands product then added a 40-yard field goal in both the second and third quarters in the win over the Golden Eagles.
 



PSAC Eastern Division Offensive Athlete of the Week

Stewart ran for a career-high 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns while adding 47 yards receiving in No. 7 Kutztown's dominant 51-14 victory over Assumption on Thursday night. Stewart scored on runs of 62 and 39 yards in going over the 100-yard rushing mark for the third time in his career. The 2024 PSAC Championship Game MVP got his big night started by breaking free for a 62-yard TD run early in the second quarter. The score answered Assumption's first TD moments earlier and pushed the Golden Bears' lead back to 14 points, 21-7. Midway through the third quarter, on KU's first play from scrimmage following a more than 60-minute delay for storms, Stewart got to the left edge and raced down the sideline for a 39-yard TD on 3rd-and-35 to make it a 37-14 Kutztown lead. Stewart carried the ball 10 times, averaging 15.0 yards per carry. He caught two passes for 47 yards, including a 35-yarder in the second quarter that helped set up a Luke Maxwell 2-yard TD run.
 



PSAC Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week

Blose contributed to ESU's 31-12 win over Pace by compiling a team-high nine total tackles (3.5 for loss) and 2.5 sacks as the Warriors held Pace to just 167 total yards (67 rushing, 100 passing) in what was a solid team defensive performance.

Zuk kicked three field goals and nailed all three of his extra points to finish with 12 points in West Chester's 30-13 victory over Bentley on the road in the season opener Saturday. He hit field goals of 25-yards, 32-yards and 24-yards, going 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts. He was a perfect 6-for-6 on all of his kicking attempts on Saturday.
