PSAC Women's Basketball Athletes of the Week - 14

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference has announced the women’s basketball athletes of the week. In the East, Lock Haven's Rhlyn Rouse and Kutztown's Ariana Smuda were selected. In the West, IUP's Nyshae' Weaver and Edinboro's Rachael Manfredo earned the honor.

Rouse stepped up in a huge way for the Bald Eagles this week. Rouse delivered a much-needed career-high 26 points in Lock Haven's 70-59 victory over ESU on Wednesday to clinch the PSAC East regular season title. Rouse added 19 more points on Saturday in a 65-53 victory at WCU to keep The Haven's region bid hopes alive. Rouse also grabbed eight rebounds on Wednesday and seven more on Saturday. Rouse shot 18-30 from the floor and 9-12 from the free throw line on the week.

In two games last week, both victories, junior center Ariana Smuda averaged five points per game, five rebounds per game, three blocks per game and 2.5 steals per game. In a come-from-behind victory over Millersville last Wednesday, Smuda finished with eight points on 3-of-5 shooting and added four rebounds and two steals. In another win where they rallied from down double digits in the fourth quarter against Shepherd this past Saturday, Smuda recorded two points, six rebounds and career-highs of six blocks and three steals. Smuda currently leads the PSAC in blocks with 58 and ranks 11th in rebounding at 6.5 per game.

Weaver had two double-doubles on the week with the IUP Crimson Hawks, winning two games. She had a week-high of 18 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists agaimnst Regionally-Ranked Seton Hill. She also had 14 points and 13 rebounds with four assists and two steals against Clarion, which IUP avenged their loss from earlier in the season. Sahe went 12-15 from the free-throw line. Shae also recorded her 1,000th career rebound, becoming the third player in program history to reach that number.

Manfredo had another outstanding week on both ends of the floor as the Fighting Scots went 2-0 in PSAC West play this week. She averaged 23.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game to go with 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per outing all while shooting 16-of-30 from the floor and 14-of-16 at the line. Against Clarion, she tallied 22 points, six rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal. In the Scots comeback win over Cal, Manfredo had 24 points, fiver rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
