PSAC Softball Athletes of the Week - 10

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Softball Athletes of the Week. In the East, Bloomsburg's Josie Straigis earned Athlete of the Week honors, while Shepherd's Madelayne Ruffner was recognized as Pitcher of the Week. In the West, the IUP duo of Reagan Rand (Athlete) and Taylor Bumgardner (Pitcher) were recognized. 
 
Eastern Division Athlete of the Week

Straigis made it rough for pitchers this week as she recorded 10 hits, six RBIs, six runs scored, four home runs, two doubles and one triple. She also had a batting average of .500, a slugging percentage of 1.300 and an OBP of .500. 

In game one against Millersville on Saturday, she had four hits on four at-bats while scoring twice and tallying two RBIs. In game two, she homered twice while recording three hits on four at-bats with two more RBIs. She now enters the top 10 in the PSAC in home runs.

Ruffner went 3-0 with a save and a 0.00 ERA on the week for the Rams.  She fanned 46 and walked two in 21.2 innings. She tossed a no-hitter against Kutztown on Tuesday. She added complete game two-hit-shutouts against Lock Haven and Mansfield. Ruffner also notched a save against Lock Haven.



Western Division Athlete of the Week

Rand went 8/18 with 13 RBIs this week. She had seven extra base hits, with three doubles, three home runs, and a triple. She also drew three walks. Rand started all six games with IUP, going 5-1, including sweeps of PSAC opponents in Clarion and Slippery Rock.

Bumgardner went 2-0 this week with two five-inning shutouts over PSAC opponents Clarion and Slippery Rock. She gave up just five hits over the two games. She walked three batters, all intentional walks of the PSAC best hitter, Maddy Cavenaugh of SRU.
