Igims, Hartel, Over earn 2024 PSAC Women's Cross Country Major Awards

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced the Major Award winners for the 2024 women's cross country season on Thursday afternoon. Slippery Rock’s Anna Igims was selected as Athlete of the Year while Shippensburg’s Ella Hartel earned Freshman of the Year honors. Slippery Rock's Bobby Over was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season after guiding The Rock to another top team finish at the 2024 PSAC Championship Meet, winning it in back-to-back years.

All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.

Igims put together an incredible season, and was not bested by a Division II runner until the national meet. She was the PSAC champion (setting a course record at Kutztown with a time of 21:26.5) and also won the Atlantic Regional with a time of 20:35.4 on Lock Haven’s course. She earned 29th place at the NCAA Championship, becoming the first Slippery Rock women’s XC student-athlete since 2010 to earn All-America honors.

Shippensburg’s Hartel debuted with a string of strong races, finishing as the top PSAC freshman in all six races in which she competed. She was seventh at the PSAC meet and 19th at the Atlantic Regional.

Over, the 2024 Coach of the Year, guided the Slippery Rock women's cross country team to a second consecutive PSAC Championship, with all seven runners finishing in the top 35 (and three in the top 12). The Rock kept things rolling at the NCAA Atlantic Regional, with a second-place finish to earn automatic qualification to the NCAA meet – where the team finished in 27th place, an improvement over 2023’s 31st place.
