LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Men’s Indoor Track and Field Major Award winners for the 2023-24 season.

The awards are determined by a vote of the conference’s head coaches. The top three finishers in each event at the PSAC Championships are recognized as All-Conference performers. That list is linked above.

Track Athlete of the Year: Noah Bernarding, California
Field Athlete of the Year: Joe Jardine, Kutztown
Freshman of the Year: Lavar Jackson, Shippensburg
Coaching Staff of the Year: Shippensburg

Noah Bernarding of California was voted the 2023-24 Track Athlete of the Year. He earned Second Team All-America honors in the 800m at the Division II NCAA Championships. He set an All-Time PSAC record in the 800m and was the champion of the mile run at the 2024 PSAC Championships. He had the No. 1 time in the Atlantic Region in the 800m and was No. 1 in the PSAC in two events (the 800m run and the mile).

Kutztown’s Joe Jardine was selected as the 2023-24 Field Athlete of the Year after finishing in sixth place (All-America honors) in the Pole Vault at this year’s Division II NCAA Championships. He was the only men’s student-athlete to score at that meet and broke a 23-year old school record with his jump of 16-10.25. He won seven of nine meets this season against competition from all NCAA Division levels.

The 2023-24 Freshman of the Year award went to Shippensburg’s Lavar Jackson. He earned PSAC All-Conference honors in the 200m with a third-place finish and was fourth in the 60m. He was an NCAA National Qualifier in the 200m (21.19) and broke Shippensburg’s school record in that event.

The Coaching Staff of the Year award was given to Shippensburg University. This year’s staff led the Raiders to their 14th consecutive PSAC championship, with honors from that meet including Outstanding Field Athlete (Mason Boyd) and Overall MVP (Mo Whittle.)  The staff also guided eight male student-athletes to USTFCCCA All-Region honors in nine different events.
