LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Baseball Athletes of the Week. In the West, Seton Hill’s Owen Mandler and Slippery Rock’s Joey Purcell were selected. In the East, East Stroudsburg’s Parker Frey and Millersville’s Alex Mykut earned the honor.

Mandler led the Griffins at the plate with a .583 average (7-12) in the four-game set vs Mercyhurst. He reached base in 12 of 17 plate appearances. Owen scored five runs and added a double, homer and 6 RBIs. Mandler went 3-3 with 2 RBI including the game winning, walk off single to win game one in Greensburg and had at least one in hit all four games.

Reigning PSAC West Co-Pitcher of the Week Joey Purcell turned in another gem on the mound to help the Slippery Rock baseball team take three of four games from UPJ last week. He pitched a two-hit complete game shutout in The Rock’s 6-0 road win against Pitt-Johnstown. Purcell, who walked just one batter while striking out eight in the win, has not allowed a run in his last 15.2 innings pitched.

In a 4-0 week for ESU, which saw the Warriors set a program record for consecutive wins with 16, Parker Frey hit .556 (6-for-9) with a 1.000 slugging and .588 on-base percentage. The redshirt sophomore totaled five hits, including two triples, four walks, six RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases. In the series finale against St. Thomas Aquinas, Frey went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. For the season, Frey owns a .413 (26-for-63) batting average -- which ranks eighth in the PSAC.

Mykut came within one out of the seventh no-hitter in Millersville history, pitching 6 2/3 hitless innings before a Kutztown double barely escaped the reach of right-fielder Sam Morris. Mykut issued only three walks and struck out seven while Kutztown managed to hit just four balls out of the infield. Mykut worked the seven innings in 94 pitches and improved to 6-0 in seven starts.
