PSAC Baseball Athletes of the Week - 12

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its 12th set of Baseball Athletes of the Week. In the East, Shippensburg's Thomas Cano-Piszel was named Athlete of the Week while East Stroudsburg's Ethan Woods (Pitcher of the Week) was also selected. In the West, IUP's David Kessler (Athlete) and California's Coleman Fletcher (Pitcher) earned the honors.

Cano-Piszel went 8-for-13 in a four-game series with Shepherd, reaching base in 10-of-16 plate appearances (eight hits, two walks - .625 OBP). Impressively, he had two hits in all four games of the series. Cano-Piszel produced two home runs, two doubles, a sacrifice fly and totaled five RBIs. The 16 total bases resulted in a 1.231 slugging percentage for the week. He also scored six runs and struck out just once. Cano-Piszel is on a 13-game hitting streak. Overall, Cano-Piszel has at least one hit in 31 of the last 32 games dating back through March 7 - his lone game without a hit since came in Game 1 against West Chester on April 11. Through 42 games this season, Cano-Piszel has a hit in 39 of them.

Woods excelled at Coca-Cola Park against Kutztown last week, throwing a complete game in ESU's 3-1 win over the Golden Bears. Kutztown didn't get on the scoreboard until they had two outs in the top of the seventh, as Woods quieted the Golden Bears' bats all day long. He struck out five batters, only allowing five baserunners all day without giving up a walk.

Kessler batted .333 with six hits over five games this week, all starts at shortstop. He recorded two doubles and drove in five runs. He also scored five runs in a week that IUP clinched the No. 2 seed in the PSAC West.

Fletcher earned a complete-game victory in Game 2 of the series with Slippery Rock over the weekend. He allowed two runs (both earned) on five hits and two walks over 7.0 innings (100 pitches). Fletcher surrendered a two-run homer in the top of the first before limiting The Rock to only a pair of runners in scoring position for the remainder of the game. The Moon Township native set a career high with 7.0 innings pitched after previously working 6.0 innings in each of his last four starts.
