Bowers, Magagna, Mengel earn 2025 PSAC Women's Cross Country Major Awards

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced the Major Award winners for the 2025 women's cross country season on Thursday afternoon. Gannon’s Emily Bowers was selected as Athlete of the Year while Bloomsburg’s Olivia Magagna earned Freshman of the Year honors. East Stroudsburg’s Adam Mengel was named Coach of the Year after guiding The Warriors to the program’s first PSAC title at the 2025 PSAC Championship Meet.

All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.

Bowers put together an incredible season, starting with a second-place finish at the YSU 5k. She was crowned the PSAC champion and finished second at the Atlantic Regional meet. She placed 91st at the NCAA Championship, becoming the first ever female cross country student-athlete at Gannon to compete at the national level.

Bloomsburg’s Magagna debuted with a string of strong races, finishing in the top five at three meets in the fall. She was the runner-up at the PSAC Championship and finished eighth at the Atlantic Regional.  Magagna capped off her successful season with a trip to the NCAA Championship where she finished 87th and was the PSAC’s highest finisher.

Mengel, the 2025 Coach of the Year, guided the East Stroudsburg women's cross country team to its first PSAC Championship title, with five runners finishing in the top 35. The Warriors kept things rolling at the NCAA Atlantic Regional, with a second-place finish to earn automatic qualification to the NCAA meet – where the team finished in 32nd.
