PSAC Women's Basketball Athletes of the Week - 4

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference has announced the women’s basketball athletes of the week. In the East, Lock Haven's Madeline Evans and Kutztown's Olivia Smelas were selected. In the West, Seton's Hill's Hallie Cowan and Clarion's Zoè Bayer earned the honor.

Evans stuffed the stat sheet in a 64-41 win at Roberts Wesleyan. Evans finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, and two steals in the win. Evans opened conference play by scoring 17 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, blocking a shot and securing a steal vs. Edinboro.

In two games last week, senior Olivia Smelas averaged 6.5 points per game, 11.5 rebounds per game, four assists per game and three steals per game in 31.5 minutes per game. In a victory over Wilmington last Monday night, Smelas finished with six points, eight rebounds, a career-high six assists and a block. Against nationally-ranked IUP on Friday, Smelas recorded seven points, a season-best 15 rebounds, including six offensive, a career-high six steals, two assists and two blocks.

Cowan led the Griffins to a pair of wins last week.  She averaged 24.5 points and 6 rebounds in the two wins.  Hallie scored a career high 30 points in the win at Chestnut Hill.  Cowan added 4 blocks, 3 steals and 2 assists.

Zoé Bayer led the Golden Eagles to a pair of wins last week, including their first conference win of the season, to improve to 6-0 overall. The junior guard averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 assists and 6.5 steals per game, and shot 12 of 26 (.462) from the field. In the win over Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday she logged 22 points, nine steals and six assists, with the steals mark tying for third in a single game in program history. She followed up with 14 points, five boards and four assists in a comeback win over the Marauders.
