PSAC Baseball Athletes of the Week - 11

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its next set of Baseball Athletes of the Week. In the West, Gannon's Wes Parker (Athlete of the Week) and Slippery Rock's Hunter Loomis (Pitcher of the Week) were selected. In the East, Bloomsburg's Jacob Reifer (Athlete of the Week) and Shippensburg's Jack Robinson earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

Wes Parker finished the week 12-for-20 with seven runs scored, 13 RBIs, three doubles, a triple, and a home run (giving him nine homers for the season, tied for the fifth-most ever in program history.) Gannon was 5-0 on the week, including a sweep of Lock Haven.

Hunter Loomis pitched the best game of his collegiate career in leading The Rock to a 2-0 shutout of PSAC West leader California as part of an eventual series split for The Rock against the Vulcans. Loomis rattled off 5.2 shutout innings against the Vulcans – which entered the weekend as the third-ranked offense in the PSAC - thanks in part to a career-best seven strikeouts. Only one of the Vulcans' four hits went for extra bases against Loomis, who allowed just one runner into scoring position following the first inning.

Jacob Reifer had an outstanding week at the plate as the Huskies went 5-0. The graduate student notched a .538 batting average (7-for-13) while driving in 13 runs. Reifer's week was highlighted by a grand slam in the first inning of Bloomsburg's Friday afternoon doubleheader against Mansfield. the right fielder went 3-for-5 on the day with eight total RBIs. On Sunday, Reifer went 3-for-3 at the plate in the first leg of the twin bill while tallying four RBIs. Reifer currently sits tied for tenth in the PSAC in RBIs this season with 38.

Jack Robinson did not allow a run as he earned the save in both games of Shippensburg's doubleheader sweep of Shepherd Saturday at home. The SU closer struck out and batter and coaxed a game-ending double play grounder to nail down a 5-2 host victory in Game 1. In Game 2 he was even more impressive. Coming on to maintain a 3-1 SU lead in the sixth, Robinson fanned six batters over the next two frames – striking out the side in order in the seventh on eleven pitches – to finish off a vital doubleheader sweep. Robinson totaled seven strikeouts and zero walks in three innings pitched.
