PSAC Baseball Athletes of the Week - 8

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its next set of Baseball Athletes of the Week. In the East, East Stroudsburg's Dennis Pierce (Athlete of the Week) and Bloomsburg's Pete Modrovsky (Pitcher of the Week) were selected. In the West, California's Santino Marra (Athlete of the Week) and Pitt-Johnstown's Ben Tomb earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

This weekend Dennis Pierce had a .523 batting average (9-for-17) with 3 HR, 2 2B, 12 RBI. He also had two walks as well as a stolen base to help the Warriors go 4-0 for the series sweep.

Freshman Pete Modrovsky helped lift the Huskies to a 5-4 walk-off victory against #16/14 Millersville on Friday afternoon. Modrovsky pitched 5.0 innings of relief in an extra-innings bout, holding the Marauders to just one hit in the final five frames and no hits in the final four.

Marra registered a .529 average (9-for-17) with eight RBI and eight runs scored, as California won all five games last week behind a four-game series sweep of Clarion. He also posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage last week while becoming the eighth player in school history to reach the 200-hit milestone. Marra opened the week by reaching base four times (two hits, walk, hit by pitch) and scoring three runs on Tuesday in a 15-10 victory over Wheeling. The Uniontown native then tallied a combined three hits, two RBI, four runs scored and one walk in a doubleheader sweep at Clarion on Friday. Marra closed the week with four extra-base hits (three doubles, homer) and six RBI on Sunday in a home doubleheader sweep against the Golden Eagles, which entered the weekend with a 7-1 mark in PSAC West play.

Pitched Complete-game (7 IP), and allowed one unearned run on three hits.  He struck out eight and walked four in Pitt-Johnstown's 2-1 walk-off win over #18/28 Seton Hill in Sunday's first game of a doubleheader at Johnstown's Point Stadium.
